♪ FitHits: Reader Choice Edition

Jenn and I love the random shuffle playlist, where we each put our iPods on shuffle and share the first five workout-worthy songs that pop up. We’ve had some good material with this method, too. After all, where else can you find a playlist with Miley Cyrus, The Four Tops and Fleetwood Mac?

And while not a true shuffle, we handed the reins over to you, dear readers, to help us compile this week’s playlist. We wanted to find some good workout tunes, and you guys came through in a pinch via Facebook and Twitter! By the way, if you’re not already a Facebook buddy of ours, why not!? Get that going, and while you’re at it follow us on Twitter, too! You’ll get the inside FBG scoop and opportunities to let us know what you’d like us to review.

Now, without further ado, I give you the first-ever official FBG Fan Playlist. Clocking in at 40 minutes, it’s perfect for a run, jog, walk or any workout you enjoy!

Warm-up

  1. (4:01) Last Name, Carrie Underwood: An adorable song from an adorable girl, this country tune tells a story, so turn it up in the warm-up so you can hear it. It’s also the perfect length to get the bod prepped for your workout.

Shuffle it up

  1. (5:01) It Takes Two, DJ EZ Rock & Rob Base: It make take two to make a thing go right, but it only takes you to make your workout a success! This song will have you picking up the pace and singing, “I wanna rock right now.”
  2. (5:24) Pump Up the Jam, Technotronic: This fun, upbeat techno song will have you pumping up your jam in the gym. Pick up your pace each time she says, “Get your booty on the floor tonight,” and you’ll be sweating by the end of the song. Also works well for simply cardio-jam-dancing in your bedroom.
  3. (4:11) Fit But You Know It, The Streets: Jenn and I are suckers for accents, so this English rapper is refreshing and fun to listen to. Slow your pace back down to a moderate intensity and recover a bit here. You’ll be fit before you know it.
  4. (3:36) Are You Gonna Be My Girl, JET: This rockin’ tune has such a fast pace and catchy lyrics that I will be shocked—shocked, I say!—if you’re not picking up your pace here. You’ve been warned.
  5. (3:11) Trouble, Pink: Now that your intensity is up, throw in some sprints during these choruses. You’ll be in trouble if you don’t!
  6. (3:03) It’s Tricky, Run DMC: Reader recommended for fast-paced workouts and runs, Run DMC will help you keep a quick pace in this high-energy song. It’s not that tricky—just keep moving!
  7. (3:47) She Loves Everybody, Chester French: I’m skeptical of free music, but this tune can be picked up on the band’s website at no cost! It’s perfect for a steady-state workout or weight-lifting session. And it’s catchy!
  8. (3:30) Don’t Stop Me Now, Queen: Listen to the title! You’re almost done! Start off slowly like the song does and increase your pace as the song picks up intensity. You’re unstoppable!

Cool down

  1. (3:55) Say Hey, Michael Franti & Spearhead: This is my personal pick, but I have to share it because I love it so much! This song is just happy, summery, and has a great reggae and pop feel. Plus it has a great message. I love you, I love you, I love you!

And remember, your vote counts! If you don’t like this list, tell us your favorite workout tune and you could see it on a future playlist! But if you love this playlist, check it out on iTunes! —Erin
