One of the most satisfying parts of my job is finding the perfect swimwear for women with large busts. Similar to bras, swimwear should fit snugly and provide optimal support. Finding the perfect suit that fits well and looks good can become a daunting trial-and-error process, but it’s definitely worth the effort. Remember, well-fitting swimwear will give you lift, coverage and make you look thinner. Yes, thinner! Read on for a few tips on how to find the best swimwear for large breasts and look great this summer.

6 Tips to Find Your Perfect Large-Bust Swimsuit

1. Wear an underwire top. Your swimsuit should fit as well as a good-fitting bra, and your best-fitting bra fits well because of the band and underwire. The snugger the fit, the more support your breasts have, and the higher they’ll stay. You’ll also look thinner—which most women don’t mind!

2. Buy bra-sized swimwear. Many women think that bra-sized swimwear looks too much like, you guessed it, a bra. But thanks to the growing demand for large-bust swimwear, this season’s looks are more sophisticated and stylish than ever. Bra-sized swimwear also provides you with the most support since the construction is designed with bust size in mind. Even if a top runs up to a XL or even XXL, this just means there is enough material to cover your voluptuous bosom, not that it will hold you up.

3. Get snug. Unlike bras, bikini-swimwear tops don’t have hooks and eyes. This means you can’t adjust the size, and it will only get looser with wear. Ideally, you should get a top that is snug before you’re active in it. If you’re more of a one-piece-swimwear type of gal, seek out swimsuits with a hidden hook and eye closing inside.

4. Go separate. If you have a hard-to-fit shape, try buying your tops separate from your bottoms. Oftentimes, bikinis that are sold together run in generic sizes. This isn’t very accurate to the way a woman’s body is built. You may have a small bottom but need a large top or vice versa. So which body part do you shop for? Do you buy two bathing suits to accommodate your backside and breasts? If this is the case, it’s better to buy separates. The cost will be the same, but the fit will be that much better.

5. Shop brands that cater to your special booby needs. I find that Panache Swimwear (up to K cup), and Freya Swimwear (up to 38HH) make wonderful and great-fitting swimwear that provides excellent support and a trendy look.

6. Go in-betweeny. Opt for tankinis if you want the coverage of a one-piece but the customized fit of a two-piece. Tankinis look great on women with short or long torsos. If one-pieces are too short or too long on you, a tankini will fit perfectly. Tankinis also provide more coverage for any areas you may be self-conscious about and if you want a tan, they can be folded up. Win, win!

It’s important to be especially careful if you are in the market for a monokini. If you have a large bottom and a small top or the reverse these bathing suits can be hard to achieve a great fit from. I wanted one so I tried on a number and I almost lost hope, before I found the perfect one.

I don’t have any affiliation with the company other than being a customer, but barenecessities.com carries multiple brands of bra-sized swimsuits in a large variety of styles. I got 2 tankini tops from them with hidden underwire bras inside and they are a godsend!
