My Fitness Truths: FBG Kristen

This week on Fit Bottomed Girls, as a special part of Back to Basics Week, each FBG will share her health and fitness truths—truths that resonate with each of us as we’re working out and living our day-to-day lives. Today, FBG Kristen shares her truths on running, swimming, biking and the size of her thighs.

You think it’s too bad that I’m struggling through a 30-minute run, but what you don’t realize is that I swam a mile and biked 30 before this last little bit of my workout. Yeah, I have every right to be beat.

You think I’ve got tan lines from laying out at the beach, sipping daiquiris? Think again—they’re from my tank top on long runs and from the swimsuit I wear while swimming laps.

You think I dumped a water bottle over my head to cool off, but really, it’s just sweat. Yep, that’s all me, and that’s what hard work looks like.

You think a girl with thick, muscular thighs like mine shouldn’t wear short skirts? Too bad. I work hard for these legs and if I want to show them, I’m gonna show them. End of story.

You feel bad for me when I’m the last one to finish a run with my weekly running group? Dude, I’m out here, running in the sweltering heat and getting to hang out with friends afterward. Save your pity for someone who needs it.

You haven’t seen me at the gym for a while and think I’ve been slacking? Ha! I’ve been reviewing DVDs at home and logging my miles outdoors. Just because I’m not here every day or a regular in a class doesn’t mean I’m not getting in some amazing workouts.

You think I’m wearing this cute running skirt because it looks good on me? Well, okay, that’s part of it, but first and foremost, it’s functional. If I can’t work hard in it, I don’t wear it—no matter how adorable it is.

Just because I write about fitness and make a point to live healthfully, don’t think for a second I don’t know how to let loose and have a fun time. After all, it’s all about balance. And that’s no protein shake I’ve got in my hand in the above picture!
