Eco-Friendly Flip Flops We Love: Okabashi Maui

eco friendly flip flops

Why are all of the FBGs discussing green fitness stuff this week? Because it’s Fit Bottomed Earth Week, silly!

We’ve never been quiet about the fact that we love a good flip-flop. Okay, they don’t even have to be that good. Cheap and comfortable works for us. But with so many flip-flops in our closets, it makes us wonder: exactly how many flip-flops are sitting in landfills right now? Yeah, that answer is scary. This is why we were psyched to try the eco-friendly flip-flop, Okabashi Maui. Super affordable at just about $15, they are 100 percent recyclable and contain 30 percent recycled materials!

And from first-hand (or foot) experience, these are doing even more than supporting a fit Earth—they’re supporting your feet, too! Just the right mix of soft and pliable yet thick and supportive, these just feel good on. Whether you use them as your regular flip-flops or as a locker-room pair to keep your tootsies safe from gym germs, you’ll like that they’re anti-slip, water-proof and latex-free. They’re also odor-resistant and have antimicrobial properties, so they don’t get stinky. If the tops of your feet and toe-areas are prone to blisters like mine are, you might have to break them in just slightly—the first walk I took them on was in really humid weather and I started to get a small blister just under the top strap. But I pretty much have that with any thicker-banded flip-flop when it’s not as dry as a desert out. So there’s that.

And the best part? The bottom of these have a massage insole that feels awesome. When you first put them on, it’s surprising—like, “What’s that there under my foot? Am I stepping on something?” And then you realize they’re little mini-massagers and your toes go all happy. It’s awesome. Oh, and these are dishwasher-safe and machine washable, so you can keep them clean as a whistle. They also come in super-fun bright colors. We adore.

Ever had a pair of eco-friendly flip-flops? Tried a pair of Okabashi Maui sandals before? Tell us about it! —Jenn

  1. These look great and good for my eco-conscious! Do they come in a lot of colors? I am addicted to flip flops and like to have ones to go with all my outfits. Especially since they are so inexpensive and recyclable so I would not feel guilty having 3 or 4 pairs in my closet.
