Meeting and Tweeting with Fitness Magazine

Deets from the Fitness Blogger Meet & Tweet Event

I was fortunate enough to speak with Betty Wong who told me she was thrilled by the turnout and impressed with the distance some of the bloggers traveled to get there. I pointed out folks I knew who were based in Texas, Illinois and one of my table-mates from Baltimore, and the editor-in-chief laughed and shook her head.

In addition to the illustrious speakers, we were surrounded by some pretty amazing sponsors such as Reebok, Camelback, KiwiSweat, Oakley, Pure Protein, Schick, Sun-Maid raisins, V8, Vichy, and, my favorite, Birkenstock—which fitted every single one of us personally with a pair of their sandals (the longest line by far, but it made for a great time to chat with fellow Twitter pals!).

During lunch, we heard from Dr. Pamela Peeke who gave us all a sneak preview at the latest scientific research she is utilizing in her upcoming book The Hunger Fix: The 3 Stage Detox and Recovery Plan for Overeating and Food Addiction, which will come out this September.

Here are a few more of the highlights from the event—in photo form!

Mia signed personal soccer balls for all of the attendees and, in my humble opinion, has the nicest handwriting in the world.

Author A.J. Jacobs is a journalist who spent a year of his life working hard to get fit and change his unhealthy habits—with the book Drop Dead Healthy being the results of his efforts.

Such a warm and funny speaker—the group was hanging on his every word! Photo by Steven Meyer and courtesy of Fitness.

Fitness Deputy Editor Mary Christ Anderson, Alycea Ungaro (of Real Pilates) and impossibly handsome personal trainer Joe Dowdell also gave out excellent advice on how to get the most out of your workouts at the gym. Finally, after a day of speakers plus a Tabura “pop-up workout” from KiwiSweat Bloggers, we were each given a goodie bag stuffed to the proverbial gills with so many fun items that it took me two days to clean it out.

AND we all were given a pair of groovy pink Reebok sneakers with our names on the boxes—how cool is that? Photo by Steven Meyer and courtesy of Fitness.

Here’s hoping that Fitness will hold this again next year! Have you ever been to a fitness event? Met one of your fit idols like Mia Hamm? Tell us about it! —Margo
