This post is a part of Back to Basics Week, a week where we share fabulous how-to and beginner’s content—like this post on freezer tips—to get you and your fitness kicked off and up for fall!

Now that we’re into the throes of back-to-school madness, many of you are probably busier than you have been this summer. For the Fit Bottomed Mamas out there, those lazy summer days have been traded for after-school activities, homework and other commitments. And even if you don’t have a little one, is it just me or is there just more stuff going on in September? From weddings to get-togethers to events, I’m busy like every weekend this month! And all of this makes sitting down to a homemade meal all the more difficult. Which is why making meals and healthy staples ahead of time and freezing them is AWESOME. We recently got these freezer tips from Ortega and just had to share! They’re oh-so cool…

4 Freezer Tips for Busy Families

1. Freeze smart. Separate appetizers, meatballs, cookies or candy on a baking sheet, freeze solid, then transfer them to a container. Separate layers with parchment paper to prevent them from clumping together. Then thaw for a delicious cooked dinner on a busy week night.

2. Bag broths and sauces. Freeze liquids flat in plastic bags, then stand them up sideways for storage. They’ll take up less space and thaw faster for cooking.
