Brooks Running Review: Skorts and Layered Tanks Galore!

Looking for some new running apparel? We are at it again, reviewing some more new pieces from Brooks Running! While I tried the Glycerin Skort, Tish tested the PR Mesh Skort, and we both got to review the D’Lite Mesh Tank. (And remember, while we are a Brooks Running blog ambassador, these reviews are totally, absolutely objective and not paid for!) Read on for our thoughts…

Women’s Glycerin Skort

You know how I’m not a fan of super-short running skirts, right? Well, this is another one of those skirts that hits right where I like it: not too short, not too long. With a fun printed waistband and cute little pleats on the side, this isn’t just your basic running skirt. Yes, it has the basics you want—a zip pocket at the back and it doesn’t ride up or down when running—but it also has fun little functional add-ons, like little silicone grippers on the hem of the interior shorts so they stay put. The flat waistband also hits just below your natural waist for a low-rise fit that’s super flattering and super comfy.

At $46, this the Glycerin Skort is one I’m wearing this fall for as long as the weather allows! (Plus, am I the only one who sings Bush’s “Glycerin” every time I say the name? I’m such a 90s-alternative-song—and Gavin—lover…)

PR Mesh Skort

A tomboy walks into a bar wearing a running skort…That’s basically what I thought giving me the PR Mesh Skort to review was—a joke. In the past, I haven’t really taken to girly gear all that well. (I share in Jenn’s sentiments.) I have issues with short anything. I’ve always been a bit weird about squatting in something considerably feminine, but this one was pretty decent. It’s a bit longer than the running skorts I’ve tried in the past, and the shorts underneath actually cover the leg. (Like the Glycerin Skort there are grippers around the leg, so they don’t ride up into your booty.)

I still haven’t figured out why people want to wear skorts, but if you are a skort lover and like a bit more coverage, this is the skort for you. It’s basic—no flowery schmowery anything. Just a skort for a gal who likes a little wiggle room without the bells and whistles. It’s a bit more than the Glycerin; at $52 you’ll have to pay for that extra length.

D’Lite Mesh Tank

Although Jenn found these tanks to be a little too large and unflattering for her taste, I found the tank I’ve been searching for. I can’t even tell you how long I’ve been searching for a woman’s jersey-like tank. The D’Lite Mesh Tank is THE perfect tank for gals who like baggy workout gear. It’s super light, comfortable and runner friendly—and it moves with you when you run (i.e. you don’t have to fight it riding up your midsection.)

Best part, it’s only $28! I haven’t seen running apparel that affordable in a long time. If you’re more of a workout tomboy like me and don’t really dig form-fitting workout gear, then I suggest you snap one or two of these bad girls up. They’re worth their weight in sweat and are even fun to layer!

How’s the weather where you are? Still able to rock the mesh tanks and skorts or are you already in warmer wear? Stay tuned for our next Brooks Running review where we test tights and jackets! —Jenn & Tish

The purple Glycerin skort pictured is so pretty! In love!

  2. I’m a great fan of running skirts, but the temperatures have dropped around here and I’m now wearing my capris. But the Brooks running skirt sounds great, and the price is just about doable.
