For this new edition of Question of the Week each FBG is talking about indulgences. You know, our three all-time favorite ways to splurge and really live the FBG motto, “All good things in moderation!” Read each FBG’s top three here.

Oh, splurges. I like splurges. Which, I mean, that’s sort of the point of a splurge, I know, but I think I might like them more than your average gal. I’m a big believer in the idea that my some of my really, really hard workouts earn me the right to splurge a bit more than I would if I weren’t training so hard, and it’s a nice little cycle. I work hard and have treats, and then, since I’ve had treats, I know I’m going to work out.

My Top Three Splurges

1. Cheese. I eat a good amount of cheese in general, but in this instance, I’m talking about just cheese. You know, like a fancy cheese plate, or a less fancy plate with a few slices of apples and some bread and a hunk of brie. Or Camembert. Or a really delicious Dubliner. FINE. As long as it’s not, like, a slice of Kraft Singles, I’m probably down with it.

2. Fried foods. I didn’t stop eating meat in order to lose weight (and it’s a good thing, too, because it certainly didn’t work out that way for me), but one thing that cutting out meat did for me was cut out a lot of the quick and easy fried foods I used to grab on the go. There are a few fried items I really love—fish and chips, the veggie chimichanga at my favorite Mexican restaurant—but I have those very sparingly. And I enjoy the hell out of them when I do.

3. Frozen adult beverages. If you’ve spent any real time with me, you know that I enjoy booze, and I’m not shy about ordering a glass of wine with my meal, even if nobody else is drinking. However, frozen drinks are an entirely different ballgame. Margaritas and pina coladas, while delicious, have their place. It’s on the beach. So, while there are days when I could definitely see myself enjoying a frozen spiked lemonade on the back porch, I hold back—it just makes those treats all the more special when I finally do find myself in the right location (and state of mind) to really savor it.

Anybody feel like joining me for any of these goodies? Or are you guys all chocolate-and ice-cream people? —Kristen
