Mamma Chia Review: We Love This Stuff!

MammaChiaWe—and just about everyone else we know on the healthy living interwebs—is into the chia these days. And we’re always looking for new ways to enjoy the stuff. Which is why when we had the opportunity to try Mamma Chia recently, we said yes. Sure, we’d reviewed chia drinks before, but we just didn’t feel like someone had nailed it yet, creating a chia-fied drink that really celebrated all things chia while also being good for you (read: not too much sugar or calories) and tasting good. A tall order, we know. But Mamma Chia freakin’ killed it. Chia-drink winner right here, folks. Big time.

Sweet but not too sweet, Mamma Chia drinks are lightly sweetened with less than one tablespoon of organic agave nectar and contain more than an entire day’s worth of omega-3s (2,500 milligrams), 25 percent of your daily fiber, 4 grams of complete protein and 95 milligrams of calcium, plus antioxidants and minerals. They’re also gluten-free, vegan, kosher, certified organic by the USDA and have 120 calories a bottle. That got your attention? It got ours, too.

The coolest part though is Mamma Chia’s taste and mouth-feel. Somehow the chia seeds are hydrated and suspended in organic fruit juice. The juice is delicious and really refreshing. And the chia seeds are smooth and plump and, well, you just gotta try it. It’s a really unique beverage experience—and it’s a little addicting, in a good way. While there are lots of flavors available—Blackberry Hibiscus, Cherry Lime, Cranberry Lemonade, Raspberry Passion, Pomegranate Mint, Coconut Mango, Kiwi Lime, Guava Mamma and Grapefruit Ginger—and all of them are good, we were HUGE fans of the Grapefruit Ginger. A little tart and a little spicy, this delighted the health foodie in me SO MUCH. My husband and I literally fought over who got the last sip. Naturally, I won (I am co-founder of the site after all…)

At $3.49 per 10 oz. bottle, Mamma Chia drinks aren’t cheap. But they are awesome. Oh-so awesome. Anyone else tried these and fallen in love, too? What’s your favorite flavor? —Jenn

It also doesn’t hurt that the CEO of the company is extremely sweet. I contacted the company to request coupons, and she sent me a personalized note with the coupons and reached out to me via Facebook. Makes the expense of the drink a little easier with this type of customer service.
