3 Summer Modesty Solutions

I’m not the most modest person you’ll ever meet. I don’t believe you need the legs of a fitness model in order to rock a mini skirt, and although my arms might not be my favorite body part, they never stop me from going sleeveless.

Still, there are times, especially during the summer, when I don’t necessarily want to show all the skin. Then again, a fabulously flowy summer caftan isn’t always appropriate (although, man, I kind of wish they were — who’s down for a caftan party?). So what’s a girl to do?

Happily, we’ve come across a few great solutions that’ll suit you this summer and every season after!

shorts and skirts

1. Moxie Epaulette Skirt

This adjustable skirt is designed to provide you with a little extra coverage pre- or post-ride, but cinches up using the snappable epaulettes to stay out of the way during your ride. Brilliant! Plus, it has a hidden waistband pocket to hold any itty-bitty essentials (money, license, etc.).

Now, let me be clear — this is a little extra coverage. It’s not a long skirt. But, if you find yourself feeling a little self-conscious wearing just your skintight bike shorts (or hotpants after CrossFit, or what have you) when you pop into a restaurant for that post-workout brunch, this could be just what you need.

2. lucy Worth the Weights Shorts

Love wearing your running shorts for strength workouts, but hate it when they ride up or fall a little farther out of place than you’d like during certain movements? It’s like these Worth the Weights Shorts were made for you!

These shorts are, first of all, totally cute (especially that Ultramarine color!) — not really 80s-style spandex under running shorts, but there’s a bit of a fun retro nod there. The inner short liner is soft and breathable, and the outer shorts allow freedom of movement (and panty lines, FWIW). And the dual waistband? Comfy, flattering, fabulous. Love it. My only complaint is that the inner shorts didn’t stay in place as well as I might’ve liked them to — they were great for strength work, but not for running (for me, that is — if you don’t have much issue with inner thigh-rubbing, they might be totally fine).

3. Trunkettes

Erin touched on these over at Fit Bottomed Mamas, and I knew I had to share them here, too. Who says board shorts are only for boys, right? These trunks are made for a woman’s figure and even come with coordinating bikini, tankini and rash guard tops.  That’s right — you can look totally put together and avoid a wardrobe malfunction at the same time!
