Best New Workout DVD Systems

katami-4-44. Katami 4×4 Warrior Package. Looking for a short workout that’s challenging but also ties in some mental toughness? Katami 4×4 would be it. The concept of this workout DVD system created by celebrity trainer Paul Katami is based on one-minute bursts that are stacked in quads of four. So it’s four one-minute bursts that start with one minute of cardio, then one minute of lower-body focus, one minute of upper-body work and finally one minute of core work. The ratio of time to rest is pretty much just a 15-second transition between each one-minute burst and then a 30-second reset at the end of the quad. You run each quad two times, and there are four quads per workout, hence the name 4×4! The workouts also get harder as the weeks go by — ramping up every four weeks. Now that’s all awesome, but what really had us feeling the love for this workout DVD program is that each DVD is named with a phrase that you’re supposed to use as a mantra. Sayings like “I am change,” “I am athlete,” and “I am warrior”? Talk about a dude after our own self-loving heart. Oh, and a FOAM ROLLER comes in the package, with a plan to use it. Bonus!

What it includes: Ten workout DVDs (eight with Paul, two with Amy Dixon), foam roller, stretch rope, eating guide with recipes, and online videos from various health professionals.

Best for: Intermediate and advanced exercisers who want to push their workout — and themselves — to the next level!
