Create Symmetry

The hourglass has long been held as the ideal shape for women, unfortunately few of us can claim those proportions. Luckily, there are a gazillion little tricks to employ that will flatter our imperfectly beautiful bodies.

If you’re top-heavy, add volume on the lower half by sporting wide-leg trousers (totally back in style), A-line (not clingy) skirts and lighter-colored bottoms. Avoid tops with high round necklines, blouses that button up to your chin and shiny material if you prefer not to draw attention to your bountiful bosom.

Conversely, if the circumference of your hips is disproportionate to your small upper half, create balance with light-colored tops, fancy necklines and chunky jewelry — these all draw the eye up to your face and out to your shoulders creating the illusion of perfection.

Boyish figures can sport deep V-necks and wide belts to create symmetry, while the more voluptuous should investigate pieces with built in structure (think seams and darts as opposed to straight cuts) to flatter those LeMans-like curves.
