Best Gifts for Runners: Tech and Safety

Whether your primary concern is your runner’s safety or you just want to help them with their negative splits, there’s plenty of tech out there designed to help out!

Polar M400 Sports Watch With GPS ($249.95): Some runners rely on their phones, and apps are great … to a degree. But for runners who are trying to track lots of data in order to improve, a watch with GPS, heart rate monitor and workout history is ideal. And not only does the Polar M400 offer those things, but it also has activity tracking so they can count their steps even when they’re not running, route mapping, and a sleek, sporty design that makes it easy to wear 24/7 instead of solely while training.

adidas miCoach Fit Smart ($199): Want to give the gift of running data without too much data? Try this activity tracker/watch. With continuous heart rate monitoring, visual coached guidance and an accelerometer that tracks pace, distance and stride, it even syncs up wirelessly to the miCoach app — keeping your loved one’s workout data (running or not) in one spot. It takes a little know-how and patience to set it all up, but for the tech-lover who likes to keep stats for all of his or her workouts, it’s pretty sweet. Plus, it totally looks cool.

PowerWrapz Light Up Safety Band ($24.95): This time of year, it’s nearly impossible to avoid running in the dark, making safety a major concern. Remember, just because you can see a car while you’re running, that doesn’t mean they can see you! Keep your favorite runner safe and super visible with these multi-use LED lighted bands that can easily be wrapped around just about anything. The company also offers these specifically for arms and shoes, although they’re currently back ordered until after the New Year.

Road ID Sport ($19.99): Speaking of keeping your loved one safe, an ID band that’s easy to wear, doesn’t get in the way, and provides all the necessary emergency information at a glance is a necessity as far as I’m concerned. Have it engraved with her name, emergency contact information, and an inspirational message to motivate her through her toughest workouts.
