9 Reasons to Resolve NOT to Diet This Year

Delicious cake with calories count labels on color plate isolateThis time of year, it can be oh-so tempting to resolve to do everything differently. How familiar does this sound?

This year, I will become Goddess of the Kitchen, cooking only the healthiest of meals and eating in all the time!

This year, I will hit the gym six times a week without fail! I’ll be that girl that’s always there!

This year, I will finally fit in that dress! And wow everyone.

This year, I will swear off all carbs/sugar! And never miss a single sweet bite.

This year, I will get skinny once and for all and all of my problems will go away!

And, girl, I’m  not saying you can’t do those things. But what I am saying is that setting unrealistic goals (AKA, goals that aren’t SMART and don’t include some wiggle room for self-love and being an imperfect human) can set you on a path of getting there in a way that’s less “lifestyle change” and more “diet.” And you know how we feel about dieting.

That’s why I recently wrote this article for The Huffington Post.

Honestly, I could probably come up with a million reasons not to diet, but these are the nine big ones that really, really drive the point home. Diets NEVER work (and yet we always think that we’re the problem not the diet — what’s up with that?!) and they can not only jack up your body’s metabolism and your intuition, but also, they’re just a drag. A drag on your energy, your mood and your life. And I don’t know about you, but I’m looking at a New Year as a time to feel better, not worse. Who’s with me?
