4. Coach.me. Coach.me is an app with an ultra-personal touch. Based on your intention, Coach.me matches you with a coach who will help you work toward your goals with individualized advice and one-on-one attention. I often come home and make a quick, easy frittata for dinner (or order in), so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to get some advice on meal planning and eating with intention.

I was paired with Esther, and we hit it off right away. Via the in-app messaging feature, Esther sent me helpful suggestions, answered my questions and checked in with me to make sure I was feeling comfortable with the different goals and options I had selected. Following her advice, I sat down with my husband to draw out a meal plan for the week. We found recipes online, and went grocery shopping and did meal prep together.

Once you set a goal in the app, you can set targets. I chose four days a week to start, with a daily reminder to eat with intention and a weekly reminder to plan our meals. It sounds simple, but we’ve struggled to find the time and energy to plan ahead (even knowing that it would be easier to take care of these tasks in advance). Having Esther touching base and offering helpful ideas made the difference between having a vague goal and actually setting and achieving objectives.

[Note: I used a previous version of Coach.me, when it was branded as Lift; the older version of the app focused more on tracking habits and setting and achieving goals, with a coaching feature. Now personalized chat-based coaching is central to the experience (I’ve heard that video-chat based coaching is in the works). I found that working with Esther really helped me feel motivated and encouraged, so I’m glad that the spotlight is now on this type of one-on-one support.]

My must-have apps are MapMyFitness, MyFitnessPal and Fitbit. I have them all connected and it’s nice that I can keep track of my exercise through MapMyFitness and my meals through MyFitnessPal and watch them all connect. I also live by my Fitbit app, my goal is to hit 10,000 steps a day and I will constantly look at it throughout the day to see where I’m at.

  8. Barbara Maye says:

Love all these options — now need to figure out which one’s I can access. Thanks

I really like Lark, it’s a cool and at the same time useful app.
I also use ActivityTracker to monitor my physical metrics on a daily basis.

It’s lesser known, but definitely worth checking out.
