A Cool Tool to Help You and Your Pet Get Fit
Most dog owners are aware of how much better our dogs can make us feel just by being themselves — I mean, there’s no remedy to a really rough day that’s quite as effective as snuggling up with my pups. And, of course, having a dog who loves getting outside can be great motivation for you to get moving, too. But what if we took that a step further … and added a safety feature that’s ideal with the time change just around the corner?
Activity monitors aren’t just awesome for humans (although, if you’re looking for one for yourself, we’ve got a great guide!) — there are quite a few on the market for dogs, too, and one that I really like, StarWalk, just came out with an update and a new, lower price ($79.95), so I had to share.
The newly updated StarWalk works with Apple and Android devices and tracks your dog’s steps, activity levels and calories burned. You can set a daily fitness goal for your pup, and — here’s where it gets super cool — the device has bars that illuminate as you move toward that goal. So, number one, you get an awesome, simple visual reminder to get moving on days when you and your dog’s activity level has been a little low, but also, the LED lighting system can be set to light up on nighttime walks and increase his visibility.
Dog owners, what do you think? Would a fitness tracker on your dog help you to move more? I’ve used the earlier version of StarWalk, and I really liked seeing those bars light up! —Kristen
