Fit As a Pro 10-Minute Workouts for Small Spaces DVD Review

fit

No time? No space? No equipment?

No excuse!

That’s the philosophy behind Fit As A ProFive 10-Minute Full Body Workouts for SMALL SPACES with Lauren Sesselmann, a workout DVD created by Lauren Sesselmann, professional soccer player and Olympic medalist (you might remember her from this special post, too!). Designed specifically for small spaces (like hotel rooms), this selection of five 10-minute full-body workouts is perfect for the traveler, apartment dweller or anybody trying to stay fit while keeping up with a busy lifestyle.

Boot camp, yoga, barre — you name it, Lauren has handpicked her favorite moves from a variety of fitness disciplines and rolled ‘em into five compact mini-workouts utilizing nothing more than a little space, a sturdy chair and a pillow.

Here’s how they shake out:

Warm-up

No matter if you’ve had a long plane ride or just a long day, deep breathing and slow, rhythmic movement will get the blood flowing and help stretch out tight muscles.

Full-Body Workout

Performed circuit fashion, this mini workout concentrates mostly on the lower body. Romanian deadlifts, criss-cross jacks, crouch jumps and lizard hops bring welcome relief to hips, glutes and hams after sitting all day.

It’s not killer, but will definitely get your blood pumping.

Chair Workout

Barre enthusiasts will appreciate the moves in this no-impact leg workout. Leg lifts, plie squats and hip rotations performed slowly provide gentle stimulation after a long day of sitting. Uses a chair for balance.

Pillow Workout

Grab a pillow and work those abs! Many of the moves (oblique chop, V-ups and glute bridge) replicate exercises traditionally done with a workout ball or yoga block. How’s that for innovative thinking?

Three circuits pick up speed as you work your way thorough the minutes.

Full-Body Routine

This multi-set workout includes both tried and true exercises and original moves to help you achieve your fitness goals. Unlike the first full-body workout, there are no jumping or jarring movements. But, don’t let that fool you; three quick moving sets keep the pulse elevated and your breathing heavy. My personal favorite.

Indoor Cardio

Can you get a good cardio workout in limited space? You bet! Lauren shows us how with three sets in quick succession. Explosive moves like burpees, split-squat jumps and jumping jacks will get the heart pumping in no time!

Cool Down

Take a deep breath and cool down, or simply re-center yourself after a particularly stressful day.

Conclusion

Love the concept — especially for travel. No need to pack extra gear; slip off your shoes (Lauren does all the moves in her stocking feet) and squeeze in a mini session (or two) between meetings.

This Olympic athlete doesn’t mess around! Part coach, part cheerleader, Lauren jumps into each workout with gusto, breathlessly counting reps and giving cues along the way. Although some sections have a bit of a backbeat, there is no trendy music to distract.

All five of these well-rounded workouts would be appropriate for beginners, intermediates and the athlete in all of us.
