3 Ways to Stay Safe — and Seen — With the Time Change

timechange-585

Having an extra hour with the time change is sooo nice. But that extra hour of daylight that’s lost in the evening? Oh, goodness. It sure does make it seem like winter. And it sure makes your evening workouts darker. Whether you’re hitting the great ol’ outdoors for a run or walk or simply going from your car to the gym, read on for three ways to keep your beautiful self a little safer now that the time change is in full effect!

3 Ways to Stay Safe and Seen During Your Workouts With the Time Change

1. Let your tech keep you safe. You guys know how we feel about fit tech. But besides tracking your steps and heart rate, there’s a new crime-fighting wearable device and app that is pretty darn amazing. The smart device, which acts as a personal security system, actually sets off an alarm, collects evidence, takes photos and calls for help — which can help identify, apprehend, prosecute and deter attackers. The Mace Wear Pod can be worn as a headband, wristband, key chain, belt clip or pendant and only weighs 0.3 ounces. The Assault Alarm is a mobile app that you can activate when needed by hitting the alert button, shaking the phone, dropping the phone when in a specified mode or missing a check-in time that you set. You can get them at stores like Dick’s Sporting Goods, Sports Authority or Sears, and it’s about $120 for a year of service. Great for outdoor runners!

2. Know some moves. We’re all about being strong — inside and out. And with these five self-defense moves, you can help protect yourself.

3. Be visible. When you’re running or walking at night, the number one way to stay safe from traffic is to be seen. From our time working with Brooks Running over the years, we’ve learned from their apparel professionals that visibility isn’t just about having reflective pieces on your gear. Instead, it’s about having them placed in the right spots so that others can recognize that you’re human and moving. And not an orange traffic cone. Are you fan of the time change? I love the extra light in the morning, but holy cow, it’s hard to do anything but want to snuggle up on the couch when it’s so dark so early. —Jenn
