5 Ways to Reignite Your Motivation for Those New Year’s Resolutions

We’re knock, knock, knockin’ on February’s door, and you know what that means, right? Yep, time for a New Year’s resolutions check! Are you keeping up on yours? Going strong? Or are you, like the majority of New Year’s resolution setters, feeling a bit less than jazzed about them (or forgotten you set them altogether)? If you’re in the latter camp, no worries. We’ve got tips today to help you reignite your fire for those goals — and keep that fire burning all year long!

1. Remind yourself of your “why”

When you first set your New Year’s resolutions, you probably had a lot of reasons why this year was going to be YOUR year. It’s time to get back in touch with that inner motivation — and go deeper.

Grab a piece of paper and journal on why you want to lose weight and get healthy. As you’re writing down your answers, keep asking yourself “why do I want that?” and then again, “why do I want that?” Keep asking yourself “why?” until you can’t go any deeper. A lot of the times we say we want to work out or eat right so that we look good, but if you can tap into the deeper reason (like: I want to feel more confident or comfortable in my body), then you have a much better motivator to keep you going. You can even go back and read your journal entry when you need a motivational boost!

2. Join a really awesome health club

Although you don’t have to have a gym membership to get fit, having a special place to work out can make all the difference in the world when it comes to sparking your get-fit and stay-fit fire. Signing up for a membership to a New York Sports Club (NYSC) in your neighborhood can be just the focused push you need to reach your goals and make those New Year’s resolutions a reality.

Your fit future awaits!

3. Keep up your habit

Being healthy for the long run is all about keeping those healthy habits going. So, don’t let yourself skip more than two days of workouts (unless of course you’re sick or have an actual reason, not an excuse!). Staying in the habit is the most important piece of the puzzle, even if your workout is just 10 minutes. Just keep after it!

4. Try something, anything, new!

Download a new playlist, try a new workout class, pop in a new workout DVD, make a new recipe — there’s nothing like trying something new to help spark that healthy mojo again!

And if you’re a member of New York Sports Clubs, give a new piece of fitness equipment a whirl. They have all the best stuff!

Look at all those options!

So many fun fitness pieces to try!

Or, try taking a group fitness class. They have the perfect class for you — with new ones available just about every hour. And you can even try a class for free here. After your class, be sure to check out fabulous facility extras like swimming pools, racquet sports, a sauna/steam room, babysitting and kids programs. New York Sports Club (NYSC) has it all!

5. Make a dream board

Creating a dream board is a really fun way to motivate yourself day after day — and it can even help you tap into goals and dreams you didn’t realize you had! Plus, looking at it every day is a serious mood booster and goal reminder. Looking at ours always makes us feel good — and when we feel good, we’re more likely to be motivated and make healthy decisions! Learn how to make your own fit dream board here.

Above all else though: go easy on yourself! Sure, maybe you’re not 100 percent where you want to be, but think about what you’ve done so far this year to be healthy (heck, even reading this post is a step you’re taking in the right direction!) and feel proud. Focusing on your successes helps you to realize just how amazing you are — and can give you the confidence and momentum to keep going.

How are your New Year’s resolutions coming? I set a goal to get better at jump rope and get organized, and I’m happy to say I’m making steady progress! —Jenn
