8 Things We Learned in 8 Years of Blogging
Like we said in this post, eight years of blogging is kind of unheard of. Internet years are like dog years, so instead of celebrating our eighth birthday, it’s kind of like we’re celebrating our 100th birthday. (And we’re totally okay with that because we know age ain’t nuthin’ but a number!) And in those 8/100 years, we’ve learned a thing or two. Eight actually (see a theme here?). Whether you’re a blogger or not yourself, we think you’ll find some gems of wisdom in our lessons learned …
8 Things We Learned in 8 Years of Blogging
1. Authenticity matters. There are a gazillion health and fitness websites out there. But there’s only one FBG. And you’ll never see anything on here that doesn’t have our own unique twist or tone to it. Everything we do comes from the bottom of our hearts — and our goal is to be totally transparent and absolutely 100 percent ourselves.
We’re just a website … asking you to love us (for who and what we are!).
2. Keep evolving. When we started FBG, MySpace was the hot thing and Facebook was starting to become mainstream (your parents weren’t on it, that’s for sure). Hilarious, right? But, seriously, in eight years the internet world has gone from us baring our souls in posts to us taking photos, creating custom workout graphics to live events to Snapping what we’re doing and making and thinking in real time. It’s pushed us out of our comfort zones (which is awesome, even for us introverts), but it’s also given us new ways to connect with you. So thanks for that, internet.
3. Being healthy is about more than just working out and eating right. We know this to be so true that we launched our fourth site this year to support it: Fit Bottomed Zen.
4. Practice what you preach. We don’t just say things like “you’re more than the number on the scale,” “all good things in moderation” and “fit bottoms come in all sizes.” We believe it, we breathe it, we live it. FBG for life, yo.
5. Trends come and go. One day it’s dance aerobics, the next day it’s kickboxing, the next it’s hot yoga. Trends are fun. Use them to inspire you to try something new and push you out of your comfort zone. But don’t become a slave to them — especially if they’re ridiculous.
6. You can change the world. There may be a billion voices on the internet, but YOU have a voice. Now what are you going to do with it?
7. Keep fighting for what you know is right. Diets STILL suck. And don’t work. Yet we still hear all about the latest “fad diets” or “guilt-free foods” or “workouts that gives you a thigh gap.” We’ve made progress on the love-yourself/anti-diet/positive-body-image front, but there is still much, much work to do.
8. Bob Harper is still the man. Forever and always. Nuff said. Reason no. 592 why we love him (hilarious):
Thanks for a great eight years, all. Here’s to eight more! —The FBGs
