How to Make Gabby Douglas’ Morning Routine Work for You

Talk about a young woman who is strong, graceful and just powerful. And we all know that, obviously, she spends a lot of time in the gym working out and fine-tuning her moves. But, what about her morning routine? What does Gabby Douglas do every morning to start her day on a healthy and focused note so that she can be her best

As part of her partnership with Gillette Venus, we’re sharing Gabby’s morning routine. And, as you’ll see, this two-time Olympic Gold Medalist knows the importance of taking care of yourself inside and out!

1. Start Each Morning With a Short Workout

Gabby wakes up at 7 a.m. and starts each morning with a workout.

How you can be like Gabby: Find some free space in your bedroom for the ultimate squats. Place your hands on your head and bend in to a deep squat. Add a hop on the way up as you bring yourself back to a standing position. Do three sets of 10 to 20 reps.

2. Fuel Yourself

Gabby’s morning ritual keeps her fueled and focused throughout the day. In addition to her favorite hearty breakfast of oatmeal or organic cereal, Gabby recommends finding a signature drink to help start the morning with plenty of antioxidants.

How you can be like Gabby: Swap your cold brew for a cup of tea. Try Gabby’s grandmother’s special recipe: Red berry tea with a splash of lemon, honey and apple cider vinegar.

3. Prep the Night Before

morning routineGabby is a morning person, but she still knows the importance of prep-work, especially when she has to make it out the door on time for practice. She always lays out her workout gear the night before, and creates a list of gym bag essentials she won’t leave the house without.

How you can be like Gabby: Gear up the night before and pack your bag with your all-around favorites. Gabby never leaves the house without tape, extra hair ties and clips, plenty of water, and of course, her favorite sunglasses.

4. Take Care of Your Skin

morning routineGabby says that taking care of her skin is really important to her. “Since I’m in a leotard six days a week, shaving is a regular part of my skin care routine. The Venus Swirl is my favorite razor to use! It always delivers a smooth finish. This razor literally moves like no other!”

How you can be like Gabby: Have a regularly skincare morning routine that includes shaving, cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen.

5. Carry Your Healthy Morning Routine Mojo on All Day

Gabby’s morning routine helps lead the path to a healthy, productive, and yes — fun! — rest of the day, whether it’s prepping a delicious lunch or playing with her cat after she gets home from training.

How you can be like Gabby: Ditch the takeout for a delicious, protein-filled salad. Take a page from Gabby’s book and make her favorite lunchtime recipe for a fully loaded salad: kale, spinach, red leaf lettuce, egg, avocado, tomatoes, cucumbers, roasted chicken and honey mustard dressing. For a DIY snack to boost your energy throughout the day, Gabby loves to melt dark chocolate and dip almonds in it — yum!
