The Cure for Cancer Could Be in Your Spice Cabinet

fight-cancer

A recent study from the University of Missouri (MU) may have found a natural way to fight breast cancer. Researchers there found “luteolin, a natural compound found in herbs such as thyme and parsley, and vegetables such as celery and broccoli, could reduce the risk of developing metastasis originating from triple-negative breast cancer in women,” according to the school.

Considering you probably already consume at least one of those things somewhat regularly, that’s awesome news. And if you don’t have much thyme, parsley, celery or broccoli in your diet currently, it’s even better news that those things are really easy to find and add into your regular meals. These are completely normal, standard, regular ol’ ingredients you can probably access prettyyyy easily, and they could be your cure for cancer.

Triple-negative breast cancer is often treated very aggressively with “highly toxic treatment strategies,” according to MU, because the more common treatments aren’t effective. This different, more aggressive treatment has called for researchers like those at MU to find more natural, safer treatments to battle this disease. Luteolin stops the spread and growth of cancer cells. It showed no toxic effects in the research. That sounds like a win-win. If the researchers’ subsequent studies are effective, they will pursue the development of a drug-form of this compound.

Until then, you can rest well knowing that you’re doing what you can to fight cancer on your own every time you eat broccoli, celery, thyme or parsley. I don’t know about you, but I feel like I’m going to be looking up all kinds of recipes with all of those ingredients. They totally work together, not only taste wise, but, you know, to fight cancer and keep you happy and healthy and all the other good things in life. So here’s to more of my new favorite things.

Will you add more broccoli, celery, thyme or parsley to your diet to ward off breast cancer? I know I will! Megan

Cancer is a huge fear of mine as my father and grandmother met their demise due to this diagnosis. I do eat celery, broccoli, thyme, and parsley often. I’ve also read that carbohydrates feed cancer and make it grow faster. I avoid many carbs, not to slow cancer growth, but to slow various post menopausal weight issues.
    Thank you for post this.

I used to eat broccoli every day when I was in high school, but left it. I’m not a fan of vegetables, but after reading this post, I realize how vital they are. I will have to add thyme, parsley, celery and broccoli again, and more vegetables to reduce the risk of developing Cancer.
