Two Words to Describe My 10K Training: Bring It

Watch out, Brooklyn. Here we come! Credit: Francisco Diez

From the title of the post, you probably think that I’ve been training my booty off, getting faster and faster and am ready to PR at our upcoming Rock ‘n’ Roll 10K in Brooklyn (courtesy of Brooks Running). But guess what? That’s sooo not the case. I have no plans to run fast, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. What I do have plans to for though, is to have a rocking (Get it? It’s the Rock ‘n’ Roll 10K?) good time.

I plan to embrace my inner dork and sing loudly and dance wildly while running (it can be done, believe me), and I plan to have some serious girl time. Believe it or not, this 10K will be the first time that us four FBGs (Erin, Kristen, Tish and I) will all physically be in the same place at the same time. And I expect magic. Lots of laughs. And probably some stink, as apparently we all have either showering issues or bowel issues.

Unlike other races where I’ve been a bit nervous and even concerned if I’d be able to finish the whole thing, my training has prepared me well. Even though I’ve just been running two, maybe three, times a week, I’ve slowly built my endurance so that I can easily run 5 miles—and really enjoy it. So 6.2 with my friends? And with no pressure from myself on how fast to run it and my only goal to have fun and finish? Piece. Of. Cake.

And afterwards? My money is on all of us going out for a Pumpkin Spice Latte to celebrate. And then shower. Promise. —Jenn
