New Classes at Canyon Ranch: ‘Happy’ Feet and TRX Yoga

Lately I have been daydreaming about taking off to a fancy health spa and just pampering myself into oblivion. Well, someone out there must have been reading my mind because I was recently invited to check out the latest offerings by the “luxury camp for adults,” Canyon Ranch, at a spiffy event held at Gary’s Loft in New York City. Score!

Since 1979, Canyon Ranch’s very name has been synonymous with all things wonderful and zen in the health and wellness world, and I am ever-so hopeful that one day I will be able to visit one of their spas. (Who wants to sponsor a press trip for me? Anyone? Anyone?)

Here were a couple of my favorite of the latest offerings from the revered spa. If you have the chance, go check ’em out in person!

Canyon Ranch Healthy Feet

So, how are your feet doing these days? Tired? Achy? Are those strappy sandals throwing you off alignment? I sold shoes to put myself through college, so I know quite a bit about feet, but Dr. Glenn Copeland (a leading podiatrist with more than 30 years of experience) has taken foot health to a whole new level and is helping athletes of all levels with their feet and gams.

Beginning this summer, Dr. Copeland and Canyon Ranch have partnered to create the “Canyon Ranch Healthy Feet” program designed to help anyone with problem tootsies gain back their foot strength, create more flexibility and correct alignment issues. The program uses a new product called Sole Energizers (you can purchase them for $40 at the ranch and also online).

When used properly, they help strengthen and revitalize your feet, as well as your lower leg area. I keep mine right by my desk where I practice my exercises while going about my regular work day. It’s amazing how great they feel after just a few minutes of attention!

Yoga on the TRX

After I learned how to make my feet happy, I eyed the gorgeous Mini Chocolate Zucchini Cakes and yummy Spanish Salad from Chef Scott Uehlein, as well as the lovely smelling spa treatments from Charlotte Prescott of the Canyon Ranch Hotel & Spa in Miami Beach. That’s when I caught sight of a woman performing yoga poses on a TRX. Really!

Heather Schmidt is one of the Tucson Canyon Ranch’s most popular fitness instructors, leading classes in cardio, indoor cycling, boxing, aquatic exercise plus yoga. In fact, Heather is the featured instructor in Canyon Ranch’s Strong & Sculpted DVD and one of the fun classes you can take with her at the Tucson spa is a combination yoga and TRX. Of course I made her show off a few poses so my fellow Fit Bottomed Girls can see it for themselves. (What a bad-ass!)
