brooks-running-winter

Baby, it’s effing cold outside. Like, winter — in full effect — cold. But that doesn’t mean we’re not out there running. Oh, no. We’ve just had to gear up properly for the colder temps. And thankfully, due to our ongoing ambassador role with Brooks Running (our product reviews are totally our honest opinions though!), we have been decked out in winter running essentials that perform well and look cute. So say hello to three Brooks Running items that are keeping our winter runs toasty warm! Oh, and you can win them …

3 Winter Running Essentials From Brooks Running

1. Seamless Arm Warmers. If you haven’t jumped on the whole arm-warmers bandwagon yet, it’s time to try ’em! They. Are. Awesome. Light, comfy and warm, Brooks Running’s Seamless Arm Warmers are fabulous to put on at the start of a run, and then as you warm up, you can just push them down and, hey, free arms! These are seamless, too, so no chafing, and they’re snug but don’t cut off your circulation. Not to mention that they’re super soft!

2. Pulse Lite Glove II. If we had three words to describe this running glove, we’d pick: lightweight, breathable and high-tech. But seeing that we can use as many words as we want (yay!), we’ll go on to tell you that this slightly fitted glove is great for training or race day, has that cool retroreflectiveness we keep telling you about and has a finger pad that allows you to work your cellie. Oh, and they’re cute and soft — and only $25. Boom.

3. Heater Hog Beanie. Hog all the heat with this simple yet cute beanie that’s super soft and has special fabric that pulls moisture away from your skin while also generating heat back to your body. It’s light, but keeps you oh-so-warm. Totally worth the $22 price tag.

  63. Marissa says:

Surprisingly, my best runs are in the cold weather. Not sure if it’s the fact that I’m one of the few runners out there (giving me more room to dance and jam out on the running paths!) or just the beautiful, yet eerie, stillness of the city, but whenever I crush 5+ mile runs in sub-30 degree weather, I feel amazing.

  64. I love running in the winter because it makes me feel even MORE badass as I’m running AND especially when I’m done. “Yeah, it’s 1 below and I just ran 5 miles outside, ain’t no thang!” haha! Living in South Dakota it gets pretty cold and windy but nothing stops me. ..well, except for the latest -32* windchill, in which case I had to run on a treadmill, which I’m thankful to have access to, but it can be torture for the long hauls. Ironically I contemplated this on Sunday, as it was below zero in Minnesota (-7 for my run). I listed the reasons in my head as I ran along – you warm up fast but never get hot; it is beautiful and peaceful to observe a fresh snowy landscape as you run; you are completely alone (most of the time) – but I think my best reason was found at the end of the run, when I entered my house and my husband said “your pink cheeks are my favorite thing about you.” That, was my reason to run in the cold!

  73. Melissa says:

I LOVE winter and would enjoy running in the winter even more with this gear!!!

I like to run in the winter (and cool evenings) because when I’m done I go home to *snuggle* with my man and he warms me up nice and hot!!! And I hate the treadmill – so boring!

  88. Rhonda says:

I love to run in the winter because I like the lower temperatures. I don’t get overheated like in the warmer months. I would love to have better running apparel though. I hate to dress in layers and try to run. Feel so top heavy and uncomfortable.

Here in Montana, December 7th we were the coldest place on earth! (-50 below wind chill in Great Falls). We have long winters here. If I didn’t love to run in the winter, I would definitely go crazy with cabin fever. I love running uphill towards the snow-covered peaks and then it’s all downhill on the way home. Sometimes, I even get to see the elk who come down from the high elevations in the winter. It does make you feel very alive and then you can go take a good long well-deserved soak in the hot springs.

  148. Adrienne says:

Running in less than perfect conditions of
Any type tell me that I’m truly a runner. But getting up, from a cozy bed, when it’s below 35deg and dark, that’s when I really know the runner in me is alive. Plus I train from June to Dec for the Dallas marathon event. This year it was cancelled
Due to a horrible ice storm that left the roads unsafe for runners, spectators and volunteers.
But I still got in my cardio, outside, and am extending my winter weather runs to include marathon
Training for my ‘make-up’ race…still deciding between a couple
Of choices, but it’ll be a Jan or Feb race. Cold weather running is my gift, 4 months of brutal heat and a month
Of ideal temps … To get in 26.2 miles on a Sunday in December. Happy holidays to me!!

Just had a double mastectomy in November and starts chemo & radiation the day before Christmas. She is the reason I decided to not give up running. I’m not a good runner and struggle with it. My aunts fight and her strength made me realize that I can do it and she can’t just decide not to have cancer because it’s hard! So why should I get to wuss out on running because it is hard!
I love to run in the winter because I love my Aunt!
