Addicted to Junk

CrispsRemember in the documentary Super Size Me when the star would start going into withdrawal and then feel better once he got his McDonald’s fix? Turns out that there is some truth to the theory of junk food addiction. Researchers recently found that some of the same brain imbalances in rats addicted to cocaine and heroin were also occurring in rats that were developing compulsive overeating habits. The study is said to confirm the addictive properties of junk food.

Most interesting to me was that once the rats got fat on their diet of sausage, bacon and cheesecake, they refused to eat when only given a nutritious diet. Just goes to show…maybe we should “just say no” to junk food, too.

The brain/obesity connection.
