Drink Smart to Cut Those Holiday Calories!

CalorieCountThe holidays are full of delicious temptations. Holiday parties, family gatherings: Food is always front and center. And if you’re like me and are trying to lose that last bit of pregnancy weightor at least trying to maintain during the season, it’s good to have a strategy to cope!

The best thing you can do to avoid extra calories is nix the alcohol. While alcohol may relax you when you’re dealing with crazy in-laws, it can also impair your judgment, causing you to load up on another helping of Christmas ham when you’re really plenty full (or say the wrong thing when Aunt Gertrude asks what you think of her new Christmas sweater)! Not to mention that holiday drinks themselves are full of plenty of extra calories.

If you are going to indulge, know which beverages are the most dangerous to your waistline. While everyone is afraid of eggnog for its high-calorie creaminess, you could always substitute it for a dessert. And eggnog’s richness may mean you just have one—as opposed to wine or beer where you may have several.

If you’re driven to drink this holiday season check out the calorie counts for holiday favorites. And even if you’re driven to drink, never drink and drive! —Erin
