UnderReview: Moms Into Fitness Boot Camp 2

Moms Into Fitness Boot Camp 2While researching workouts specifically designed for new moms, I discovered Lindsay Brin of Moms Into Fitness. In an “It’s a Small Fitness-World” twist, I discovered that like me, Lindsay went to the University of Kansas. It’s always nice to run into fellow Jayhawks, even if it is virtually. Lindsay was so kind as to send me her prenatal and post-natal workout DVDs to try, and while my little stinker decided to come early and I didn’t get to try the pregnancy workouts, I must say, girlfriend kicked my rear in the postpartum-fitness arena.

The Moms Into Fitness Boot Camp 2 is set up to provide busy moms a range of quick workout options. You can do the 8-week program, which is split into four 2-week segments that get more difficult as they go, or you can mix and match cardio/toning segments and core workouts. I loved how the six 10-minute cardio and toning segment and the six different core sections are numbered from one to six, with one being the easiest and segment six being the toughest. That way you can build stamina instead of getting burnt out doing too much too fast. And as you get stronger, you can do the tougher workouts or if you’re short on energy, you can opt for an easier segment. With a total of 100 running minutes, the DVD gives lots of options if you only have a little time.

One thing I loved most about the DVD is that beginner, intermediate and advanced levels are shown for each move so you can work to your comfort zone and build up as you get stronger. Even doing mostly beginner moves, I was taking breaks on occasion. The cardio and toning got my heart rate up with all of the boot-camp goodies: Lunges and side lunges (jumping lunges for advanced!), push-ups, mountain climbers, kicks and weight work. The core sections cover everything from pelvic floor work to Pilates-inspired moves to planks.

As an instructor, Lindsay does a great job of being motivating, with excellent tips on good form and reminders on keeping the core activated throughout. My only beef? In her intro, she says that “moms just like you” will be doing the moves. Shah—maybe if you’re a mom who has her six-pack back! Don’t expect to see any extra weight in the middle on the gals in the DVD!
