New Guidelines Say to Stop Shaking That Salt!

Eat less salt and more whole grains, vegetables and fruits is the new mandate set by the federal government. The United States Department of Agriculture announced the new dietary guidelines during a press conference at George Washington University that are designed, in part, to help address the growing obesity crisis in America.

“The 2010 Dietary Guidelines are being released at a time when the majority of adults and one in three children is overweight or obese, and this is a crisis that we can no longer ignore,” says Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of Health and Human Services, in a statement announcing the new guidelines. “These new and improved dietary recommendations give individuals the information to make thoughtful choices of healthier foods in the right portions and to complement those choices with physical activity.”
