Dear FBM,

I’m a mom of two who works and goes to school full time. What are some ways I can lose my baby weight?

Thank you,

Amanda

Hi Amanda,
You didn’t say how old your kiddos are, but it doesn’t matter because my advice will work whether they’re infants or teenagers! Losing pregnancy weight can be a challenge, but these tips should help.

1. Give yourself time. It takes awhile to gain the weight, so give yourself plenty of time to lose it. Remember, those celebs posing on magazine covers a few weeks postpartum are NOT the norm.

2. Make healthy eating a breeze. Chances are that if you’re working and going to school full time, healthy eating can take a backseat. First of all, don’t skip meals, even if you’re super busy. You’ll just be more likely to overindulge later in the day. Plan ahead and pack healthy lunches and snacks so you’re not tempted to grab high-calorie on-the-go meals.

3. Sleep. I know it’s hard to find the time, but make getting your zzz’s a priority. When you’re exhausted it’s much easier to be tempted to grab that meal-sized caffeinated beverage or grab a sugary snack for a quick pick-me-up. When you’re well rested, making healthy choices becomes a lot easier.

4. Fit in family fitness.
Odds are that if you’re super busy, you’d rather spend time with your family when you are at home rather than hit the gym. So be sure to fit in some activity each day, and include your kids if possible. Walk around the block with the stroller, play tag in the backyard, or even throw in a workout DVD while your kids play along. You don’t have to carve out an hour each day to see benefits; little bits of activity add up. Get more family fitness ideas here!

5. Don’t forget yourself.
Make “me time” a priority, even if it’s only 15 minutes here and there. A little bit of time to yourself can have major restorative benefits. So make dad step up to the plate so you can hit a movie or hire a babysitter so that you can get a massage. It may not help you lose weight, per se, but it will do wonders for your well-being!

Hope that helps, Amanda! Best of luck for losing that baby weight! —Erin
