Happy Chinese New Year 2012, ya’ll! It’s the Year of the Dragon, which is said to be one of the strongest of all of the zodiac signs. While we don’t normally celebrate the Chinese New Year, this year we thought it would for fun. After all, being strong is cool! Want to party with us? Try these five fun and healthy ways to celebrate the Chinese New Year!

5 Fit Ways to Welcome the Year of the Dragon

1. Eat some fish and oranges. According to legend, when starting a Chinese New Year, you can boost your luck by eating certain foods. And guess what? Most of the “lucky” foods are healthy ones! Welcome in the Year of the Dragon by eating steamed fish (the saying goes to “fish for a wish,” which we love) and enjoy an orange as a sweet treat today. The sweetness of oranges is said to symbolize luck and wealth. Plus, they’re yummy.

2. Lift weights. As we said, the Year of the Dragon is all about strength and being mighty. And what better way to do that than by strength training? Not sure where to start? Try this 2012-inspired workout that takes just 20 minutes and gets results!

3. Try an Asian-inspired workout. Celebrate the Chinese New Year by swapping your usual workout for one that includes martial arts moves. We’re particular fans of this Martial Fusion workout DVD!

4. Roar like a dragon. Get your Year of the Dragon on by roaring like a dragon—or a lion. It’s fun, and some say it’s a good workout for your face. At the least, it’ll make you crack up.

5. Get lucky. The Chinese New Year is all about luck and making the next year great. And what better way to do that than getting in a little extra cardio with someone you love? Hehe.
