10 Favorite Workout DVDs From a Guy Who Knows His Workouts
With so many workout DVDs on the market, even we FBGs—who review new workout DVDs all the time—get a little lost in the shuffle sometimes. So this list of Darren Capik’s, CEO of Watch It Now Entertainment, 10 favorite workout DVDs? Well, we knew we had to share it. First, because this guy knows his stuff (he’s worked with everyone!), and second, because we’re human and need new workout DVD ideas, too! Read on for Darren’s faves—which obviously include more than just the ones he has produced!
My 10 Favorite Workout DVDs
Below are my 10 favorite fitness DVDs—some are extremely popular and some are unheard of. They represent the best workouts on the market, as all of them engage both body and mind. These 10 DVDs create the ultimate at-home gym!
1. Billy Blanks: This is Tae Bo. Tae Bo has been around for so long because it is effective, unique and fun. This DVD is classic Tae Bo and will tone and strengthen the whole body.
2. Bob Harper: Total Body Transformation. The title says it all—this IS a total-body transformation using powerful intervals, plyometrics, and strength and endurance training. It is one of the most intense fitness DVDs on the market.
3. Brooke Burke: Tone & Tighten. This hardcore DVD will help shape the body with dynamic exercises geared toward anybody. Brooke is engaging, lively and really speaks to the fitness mom.
4. Duncan Wong: Yogic Arts Source Power. A yoga workout that really challenges you, makes you think and captures the mind and body to push you to a discipline level you’ve never experienced.
5. Jillian Michaels: Ripped in 30. This has four distinct 24-minute workout routines accompanied by a diet and lifestyle plan. It’s not just a workout series; it’s a lifestyle program.
6. Georges St-Pierre: Rushfit. MMA champion Georges St-Pierre created a program that emulates his own training regimen. It challenges every muscle in the body at every level. There is nothing like this series, and it is a more efficient body performer than P90X.
7. Michael Olajide Jr.: Aero Jump/Sculpt. Michael Olajide Jr. is a former boxer and is the most underrated fitness person in the market. This DVD uses eight highly intense rounds of jump rope and body sculpting that will absolutely get you in shape from your living room.
8. P90X: The Original. This system includes workouts, nutrition plans, supplement options and more for an undeniably effective workout. This is admired for a reason—it works.
9. Tara Stiles: This is Yoga. Tara created an epic all-encompassing five-DVD yoga series that is coming out soon. It has everything you need to know about yoga for the price of one. The program includes a how-to encyclopedia of all yoga moves geared for beginners and advanced yoga enthusiasts and is the quintessential yoga resource that touches upon every part of the body.
10. Tracy Anderson: Dance Cardio 2009. This DVD incorporates amazing movement patterns and basic dance choreography for solid cardiovascular work. It is an intense, well thought-out program that will help you grow and learn.
We have to say that we agree with most of Darren’s selections here, and we definitely have a few new workout DVDs that are on our radar! What would be on your 10 favorite workout DVD list? —Jenn

For me it’s Jillian Michaels Body Revolution. Great meal plan and awesome DVD set that only takes 30 minutes out of your day! Very intense but gets you results! Luv it!!
I have been doing the Insanity workout and love it. It’s intense interval training and really helps build up my endurance. Lots of great workout dvd’s listed too.
Mine is already on the list! Total Body Transformation by Bob Harper is AWESOME! I have never sweat so much in my life… seriously.
Cathe Friederich is my favorite, I love all of hers but her Low Impact Series is what I reached for this morning! Always a great workout.
Jillian Michaels Banish Fat Boost Metabolism – I like to believe I’m fairly fit and this one kicks my butt every time!
I really love Jillian Michael’s Body Revolution set. It is very well designed!
Karen Voigt Fit & Firm. The queing is great and the exercises are efficient and you can customize the DVD which is a HUGE plus when you are short on time.
Jillian’s 30 day shred, then ripped in 30. I also love the Power Yoga DVD I found at a thrift store, I find the guys in Flabs to Abs funny in the outtakes and intro and their workouts are quite difficult. I had a beginning belly dance set that I loved, but I don’t know where the 2 discs ended up. 🙁 Other than that, I don’t really have other DVD experience.
I do wanna try out one of the Jackie Warner ones and the Rushfit would be pretty awesome! My UFC trainer for my Wii is a lot less intense than I was expecting. I found the NFL Trainer for Wii to be more demanding.
I’ve also been dying to try P90X and would consider even trade for one angsty and quick to anger 12 year old boy. 😉 lol
Love anything by Bob Harper!
anything by jackie warner! i prefer her over jillian. definitely my fave in terms of effectiveness.
My workout list would have to include Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred and Yoga Meltdown DVDs, as well as P90x (especially the yoga sequence..it is tough, but I love it!).
Ellen Barrett’s Power Fusion and Fat Burning Fusion are great!
I did p90x because it really worked! But I would have enjoyed a little more variety, so using other DVDs would be perfect!
Good list! My list would consist of pretty much anything by jillian michaels. Just tried her kickboxing one and loved it!
For me, it’d be Bob Harper’s Super Sculpt or Kelley Coffey Meyer’s Circuit Training. Both sneak up on me the next day!
When friends/family ask me how to get started with weight loss I *always* recommend all of the Biggest Loser DVDs. There isn’t a bad one in the bunch and they’re not overwhelming to beginners!
I’m now a huge fan of turbofire and Chalean Extreme….Cathe Friederich is fantastic, love Jillian Michaels and I’m dying to try Bob Harper’s Total Body Transformation.
Tae Bo is still one of my all time favorites! I also love Bob’s kettlebell workouts!
It’s not TECHNICALLY workout DVD, but I LOVE Zumba Fitness Rush for the Kinect.
I always seem to rotate between Jillian’s 30day shred and the original billy blanks tae bo buns and abs video
Currently, I’ve been obsessed with Insanity. I love the HIIT workouts! Also, Bob Harper’s Kettlebell Cardio Shred.
I love anything by Jillian Michaels. 30 Day Shred is probably my favorite though!! Quick results, and not too much time out of my day.
Bob Harper anything!!
Jillian michaels banish fat and boost metabolism kicks my butt every time. Love to tey new ones and need to to keep on tje right track. Down 25 pounds.
I have the entire series of Billy Blank’s Tae Bo Bootcamp – he is awesome, inspiring and very motivational. Anyone know of a really good Salsa workout vid?
I would love to try P90X too – I did the ab ripper workout after finding it online and it was really great! Easy to figure out moves but super challenging.
Definitely Jillian Michaels’ No More Trouble Zone and Ripped in 30. I also really like the Self Bikini Ready Video and Shape’s Hollywood Workout. Nothing with anything too dancy for me!
She may be a bit corny but I LOVE Denise Austin. I used to tape her Light and Fit and Daily Workout shows onto VHS when they were on tv. And I have several DVDs like her fat blasting yoga and buns and abs workouts. I also LOVE Jillian Michaels 6 week six pack DVD, it’s super cardio AND abs in one! At fit club, we just did a Tai Chen DVD and it was….interesting. I really like it when they play Insanity workouts!! Those are SUPER cardio!
I love all of Jillian’s, especially Yoga Meltdown. I’ve been wanting to try that Brooke Burke one as well.
i love the kama sweat dvd, it is new and totally focuses on the pelvic core and tightening up your tummy and butt and pc muscles. it looks really light, but you really feel the difference after only a couple workouts.
I love the Mark Blanchard yoga DVDs (when I have time) and Jillian Michael’s 30-Day Shred for days when I only have half an hour.
Right now it’s the new Jillian Michaels Kickbox DVD. Just came out. It’s just what I need. 3 kickboxing workouts that are only 20 minutes but they’re an incredibly efficient 20 minutes.
I really like the Firm workouts. I have and old one from the 90s and it’s the perfect mix of cardio and weights. Despite the bad clothing and music, I still break it out every so often since it works so well.
i would also include jari love and exhale core workouts
I love Bob Harper’s DVD workouts, but especially super sculpt!
Jari Love’s Ripped 1000. Combines strength and cardio. Awesome!
I just finished Jillian’s Ripped in 30 and I absolutely loved it! It was exactly what I was looking for: an intense, effective workout that was only 30 minutes and easily fit in my hectic schedule. I highly recommend it.
I love all of jillian’s videos like all the people before me. Not just because people accident call me Jillian though (:

Zumba is my favorite. I also really like the walk away the pounds dvd’s by leslie sansone.
I hear the 30 day shred is goodbut I am not a fan of jillian michaels.
Jillian’s 30 day shred AND Jillian’s power yoga.
lol…I guess I’m a bit of a Jillian whore. 🙂
I’m a mom of two (under 3) and for the first time since high school I’m getting active again. I want to model a healthy lifestyle for my kids, but I live in a rural area so I depend on workout dvds. I’m currently on day 26 of Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred. I’ve lost 17 pounds and my body is different in every way! It was the perfect DVD to kick my butt, but still feel like I could reasonably fit it in with two little kids running around. Love it!
Thanks for this post – I love reading workout DVD reviews!
My favorite is a toss up between Jillian Michaels’ Extreme Shed & Shred and her Ripped in 30.

I’d definitely add turbo jam! I love collecting workout DVDs !
I am working my way through Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred. It’s tough but I love that each workout is only 20 minutes-great results in a short amount of time are so important for this busy mama. I also love Bob Harper’s Yoga for Warriors.
I love the New York Ballet workouts! When I finish, I feel strong instead of just exhausted like some DVDs.
Turbo fire!
I LOVE my Turbofire dvds! What an incredible giveaway…thanks for the chance!
I love Jillian Michael’s Yoga Meltdown and the Shred. Biggest Loser Boot Camp workout is a killer.
Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred is fast and effective!
I absolutely LOVE 30 day shred
I haven’t tried many, but I love 30 day shred, p90x, and insanity!
I love Jillian Michael’s dvds, but I’ve been eyeing some zumba workouts lately. P90x is fun, too!
Good list but since he’s a guy, he doesn’t list a barre workout. I love The Bar Method’s Super Sculpting (either I or II). Never tire of it and it’s deceptively challenging.
I love piyo videos! I was just introduced to it and I love it.
I love Bob Harper’s Pure Burn Super Strength, and The Pit Workout
Here are my top 10:
Insanity
P90X
Jillian Michaels shred

I haven’t tried a lot of your top 10 so I would love to win. Either way, I love your site! Thanks for doing what you do.
I love Zumba DVD’s! I hate saying it, b/c it’s such a cliche, but it is more like dancing than working out. I’ve heard great things about P90X and am thinking about trying that next…if I feel brave enough!
Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 and Bob Harper’s Total Transformation are my FAVS!
I really love The Firm’s 500 Calorie Burn. Kicks my butt every time!
Jillian Michael Shred

Jillian Michaels Killer Buns and Thighs would make my top 10. Of course, I love just about all of Jillians DVDs. 🙂 Windsor Pilates would also make my list because I think it rocks for toning.
The Insanity Program is my favorite set of workout DVDs. I loved measuring my progress along the way through measurements, the scale and pictures. So inspiring! And who can complain about having to watch Shaun T. everyday?

Wow, just watched the aero jump sculpt on youtube. That looks intense (but awesome)! Would love to win and add to my collection!
I haven’t done very many so I don’t have a top 10. I have some of The Firm DVDs with the step and I do like it. char.groups(at)gmail(dot)com
Anything Jillian michaels! I can’t pick just one!
For yoga, I love the Namaste series from Kate Potter. For an effective workout, anything by Jackie Warner.
Definitely P90X DVDS. I love them all. Also the MTV Pilates Mix with Kristin McGee.
I’ve been doing Billy Blanks Boot Camp workout videos – they are so energizing and tough! I love the way I feel after – especially the next day when my muscles feel tighter and I feel strong and motivated. Billy really motivates well and I just love the way he explains things. Only con – he doesn’t seem to count sets well… he does say “ok last set” a few times and then he keeps you going – which makes you want to grunt/scream the count of reps out harder!
Anything yoga but 30 day shred is a good one too.
My favorite is definitely Jillian Michaels 6 Week 6 Pack, that was the main one that jump started my weight loss. Using almost all her dvds since last July I’ve lost 40lbs and I’m went from a size 14 to a size 6.
Tae Bo Cardio Inferno…awesome!
I’ve only tried a couple of the P90X vidoes which are super tough. I’d love to try Jillian’s ripped in 30. I love her!
I haven’t tried Turbo Fire yet, but I love my Turbo Jam videos. They are really fun workouts and they really work you hard (if you put the effort into it).
I really love Bob harper and jackie warner.
I’d have to add:
TurboFire (new DVDs were released this week).
Les Mills Pump
Shiva Rea Daily Energy Yoga
Zumba

I don’t have a full 10 but I LOVE:
Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shread
JM – Killer Buns and Thighs
Bob Harper – Yoga Warrior
Bob Harper – Pure Burn
OH – My old school loves are Billy Blanks Tae Bo…in high school we’d do that every day after school & I got the workout DVD’s again!
The original Jane Fonda workout! That was the first one I ever tried.
Great!!!!!
I love the zumba fitness dvds or the game for the wii!!!
1. Billy Blanks – This is Tae Bo

9. Stephanie Vitorino – Bootylicious Buns DVD combo pack
Short and simple, but left my buns on FIRE !
10. Jillian Michales – Banish Fat/Boost Metabolism & No More Trouble Zones
I loved alternating these DVDS for an all-over, body burn workout.
I love all of the biggest loser DVDs. Jillian Michaels would feature pretty prominently on my personal list. 🙂
I love P90 Sculpt 3/4, Yogalosophy, Lose Weight in 8 series, pretty much anything Jillian … and I have high hopes for the Booty Barre DVD I have yet to unwrap 🙂
I have yet to find one I really love. I feel silly in front of the TV trying to mimic what they are doing. Maybe it is time for a change?
Not going to lie, the Jane Fondas are still fun, I do them with my aunt – can’t go wrong with basics. Anything Jillian Michaels is amazing too!
Any Jillian Michaels or Bob Harper workout is awesome!
Bob Harpers Inside Out Series. Love them. If I had to pick one it would be the yoga. It’s what a workout should feel like!
Anything by Chalene Johnson – Turbofire, Chalene Extreme, & Turbojam

30 Day Shred
Ripped in 30
Train For Your Body Type by Women’s Health
Jackie Warner Power Circuit Training
No More Trouble Zones
Booty Barre
Shed and Shred
Killer Buns and Thighs
Love everything by Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels! They will really work you out and you will thank them when you are done. I would so love to try P90X. I love doing yoga as well.

Jillian is awesome. I also love Billy Blanks. My latest craze is Jannette Jenkins. She helps burn lots of calories with her Interval routines.
Can you recommend a DVD for a “fat bottom” girl who hasnt worked out in quite sometime. I am 42yo and was previously very athletic and would like to do something challenging but not something that will kill me. I see Jillian has several DVD’s but not sure which one to tackle first..should I combo a few.. etc. Or direct me where to go to get started on working out/ dieting etc? Thanks…I really want to get my life back in order and I am ready to start feeling good about myself again.

PERFECT LEGS, GLUTES & ABS: Michele Olson, PhD
My go to DVD right now is Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred, I do quite a few DVDs but I always go back to that one! Though there are quite a few I want to try on your list!
I preferred Jillian’s 30DS to Ripped in 30 … just a personal preference (more basic, straightforward moves). Pinning this list for reference though, I’ll see if my library has some to borrow and try before I buy …
Focus T25!
Zumba because I can do it on my own at home and not feel self-conscious if I do the steps wrong! Also anything by Bob Harper and the Biggest Loser Yoga DVD.
Love Tae Bo and Insanity, and I’ve been wanting to try out the Fusion Fitness DVDs for a while.
