Ready to Run: 3 New Brooks Running Pieces for Summer

Yesterday, I shared deets from my amazing time in New York City where I learned all about Brooks Running, and today I’m reviewing a few pieces that I’ve gotten the chance to test out. Remember, even though we are a Brooks Running Blog Ambassador, this is not a sponsored post, so this is our honest-to-goodness opinion (as always!).

Running shorts can be tricky. First, they’re short. Like, sometimes really short. Second, they can just look so…well…runner-y. And I’ve never felt like I could quite pull off straight-up technical running shorts because I really don’t run that fast (this is similar to my past performance sunglasses hang-up) and a lot of them give me a muffin-top. But, I don’t like running in longer shorts, and I certainly like the features of traditional running shorts that are light-weight and oh-so easy to jog in. And, seriously, the Brooks Running Versatile Low Rise Knit Short is the best of all running worlds.

They have a fabulous low-rise slim fit, a wide waistband that’s comfy and flattering (read: muffin top begone!), and a cool two-layer mesh color-contrast look. They even have pockets. Real pockets! With a 3 1/2-inch inseam, they are short, but isn’t that what summer is all about? I know they’re $40 a pop, but they come in fun colors, and you’ll so want to wear them every day of the week. Promise.

Oh what a pretty shoe! No, I’m an Asics girl, but only because I haven’t tried Brooks. My the shorts are short aren’t they? I have pretty short liners I wear running with short shorts. Boys will be boys and look, you know? I’ll keep an eye out for Brook sales.

I am in LOVE with the new PureCadence (in hot, screaming pink!). Just got a pair a week ago, and did a 5 mile run this past weekend. They are cushy, but super lightweight and great for promoting a better stride.
I also got rather brave and recently picked up the d’lite mesh skort. I say “brave” because I’m normally a SkirtSports girl.. I like a little more coverage (forget shorts, those things would ride up on me in the first 10 steps!). I’d tried other Brooks skorts before, and always had to send them back because they would do the same 🙁
The d’lite skort, however, has little grippies in the shorts, and they stayed put even after a NASTY, sweaty interval run in high humidity! And it feels like you’re wearing nothing, so there ya go!

  3. I’ve actually been a Brooks girl since 2009 and it’s all I run in. I’m just breaking in my Pure Cadence right now and they are FABULOUS! I also have a pair of old Adrenalines and Trances that have been “retired” for runs, but I just can’t let them go, so they’re used with insoles for hikes, walks, outdoor activities, etc. And then my normal 2 pairs of Adrenalines and a pair of Green Silence are in the current rotation with the Pure Cadences. Just picked up the 3.5″ shorts (non-woven ones, but now I really want to try them) and LOVE them! Love the soft, wide waistband and don’t mind that they’re short. I’m short (5′), so why shouldn’t my shorts be short, too?!
