Love, Love, Loving Lucy

Stylish Spin clothes? Yes, please. Credit: lucy

I love finding a brand I can go back to time and time again and know I’m going to be happy with the fit and quality. But when that same brand tries something new and takes things in a different direction, it can be nerve-wracking. Will the new stuff live up to the standards of the old?

When lucy activewear asked me if I’d like to check out its new Spin Fusion Collection, that’s exactly what went through my mind. My first pair of lucy capris, which I received for a review several years ago, remain my all-time favorite workout capris. They stretch without getting too tight, and I love that they’re thick enough to not show a harsh panty line (shut up, it matters) but not so thick that they’re too hot to wear in the summer.

So, new collection? Yes, let’s do it.

I received a pair of Spin Fusion Shorts and the Racerback top. The Racerback is great; it offers a slim fit with moisture-wicking fabric, along with a handy mesh pocket in the back that’s perfect for my keys and gym membership card, or even a pack of Gu. Also, the neckline is cut high enough to prevent too much cleavage from showing, even when I’m bent way over on my bike.

The shorts, though—that’s where it’s at. They’re padded enough to make an hour or so on the Spin bike totally bearable (seriously; I would not lie to you about this), but I can hop off the bike and hit the weight room or go for a run without feeling like I’m wearing a diaper. Those who have worn true bike shorts before know what I mean. The bottom of the shorts has a gripping material that keeps the legs in place, and there’s a pocket on the leg that’s perfect for small storage (again, like a card or keys, or maybe a little cash if you’re out for a ride).

Bottom line: Just as my old lucy capris have become a favorite choice for workouts, my new pieces from the lucy Spin Fusion Collection (especially the shorts) are in a constant wash-and-wear rotation. If you Spin or cycle, and particularly if you do so in addition to other workouts on the same day, this is not a collection to be missed. Prices range from $24.99 for sale items up to $59.

Do you have workout clothes you go back to over and over, even when you’ve gotten something new? What makes those pieces winners? —Kristen
