For the Fit Fashionista: Splits59

Get subtly shiny in Splits59’s Nova Tight.

It’s no secret that we’re fans of lululemon (especially FBG Tish). When it comes to buying workout apparel, they just seem to have the best quality, fit and material. But lately? Well, there are some new players in the fitness-fashion house. Players that are challenging lulu for her best-workout-apparel crown. Players like Splits59.

This was the first time we’d heard of Splits59, a new line of “premium activewear for women.” With a “premium” pricetag (we’re talking $44 for a basic tank and $98 for tights), the line is said to be a fave of celebs like Emily Blunt, Miranda Kerr, Kelly Killoren Bensimon and Kim Kardashian. But, really, we don’t care who wears it. We care how it performs! And if it’s worth that dang price tag. So we put it to the FBG test!

First up, the Nova Tight. We really have nothing but nice things to say about these tights. With nice style lines and mesh detailing for flare, these also feature a wide waistband (love that!) and a low-rise fit that isn’t so low you get mistaken for a plumber. It has a tight fit that doesn’t stretch out as you get sweaty, and they have fun little reflectors on them in case you’re out when the sun doesn’t shine. (Sorry, butt-crack jokes still on the brain.) Overall, tights perfect for just about any workout that have a quality that meets the price tag straight on.

Splits59’s Ashby Ribbed Tank is a little (okay, a lot) sheer and oh-so soft.

We also got to try Splits59’s Ashby Ribbed Tank in yellow. Now, this one not only looked like butter, but it also felt like it. I was seriously taken aback by how comfortable and soft and stretchy and just plain awesome it was both to just feel and wear. Totally cotton-free so it dries super fast, this tank is long with a hip-length hem and looks super fly and fitness-y with a racer back. (I’m always a sucker for the racer back). Confession: I liked this one enough that I wore it when I wasn’t hitting the gym at all. It’s just that comfy. But be warned: If you get a lighter color like the yellow, this tank is kind of sheer. And by sheer, I mean see-through. I liked to rock it with a super bright blue or pink sports bra for fun on days when I was feeling extra confident. And no matter what color you get, also know that it’s dang tight. So if you have anything you’d like to keep to yourself, this isn’t the tank to rock (although it’s great layered under something).

Our overall take on Splits59? They’ve got some street cred. The pieces are high quality, made in the USA and are constructed of amazing materials that are definitely a touch on the more fashionista side of fitness. We do wish they had larger sizes available, but overall Splits59 gets our stamp of approval. Cute and functional—hard to beat that!

Tell us, how fashionable do you like to get with your fitness apparel? And how much would you pay for the perfect tank? —Jenn

  1. I’ve heard a bit about Splits59 here recently. Seems interesting–I’m all about cute and function workout apparel. With this being said, I am still not willing to pay an overly high price upfront. I’d have to be darn-well-certain the product rocks my socks first. 😉
