Food Fight: Special K Popcorn Chips vs. FIT Popcorn

popcorn-food-fight
Hold on to your foodie booties; we’ve got another Food Fight for ya today! Last time we pitted chips head-to-head, and today we’re taking it to the popcorn streets. So whether you’re a popcorn purist or want yours with a little flavor and in a new format, check out our thoughts on which rocks more: Special K Popcorn Chips vs. Fit Popcorn!

Taste and Texture

Special K Popcorn Chips: Available in Butter and Sweet & Salty flavors, these are crunchy and light. The butter tastes a little fake-buttery, but the Sweet & Salty is kind of like Special K put kettlecorn in a chip. (Which is awesome.)
Fit Popcorn: This popcorn is just like what you’d pop at home and then season. Sea Salt is about as natural as you can get when it comes to prepackaged popcorn, Olive Oil has just a hint of EVOO, Onion Dijon is heavily flavored (Maybe a touch too much? We’re on the fence.), and Parmesan & Herb is simply addicting. They’re all very natural and fresh tasting though—no fake flavors here.
Winner: Special K Popcorn Chips aren’t bad, but Fit Popcorn wins this one!

Nutritional Facts

Special K Popcorn Chips: A big ol’ serving of 28 crunchy chips has 120 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, 2 grams of sugar and 2 grams of protein and 2 grams of fiber.
Fit Popcorn: You can have a whopping three-and-a-quarter cups of Fit Popcorn for about 130 calories, 6 grams of fat (or less), 0 grams of sugar, 2 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber.
Winner: Both are low-cal snack options that you can have a lot of, but the slight edge goes to Fit Popcorn!

Ingredient List

Special K Popcorn Chips: These have a fairly clean ingredient list and are kosher. Not bad for a major company’s snack chip.
Fit Popcorn: Gluten-free, non-GMO and all-natural, there’s not really anything on Fit Popcorn’s ingredient list for us to complain about.
Winner: Both are good, but, again, Fit Popcorn has that slight edge!

And the Food Fight Champion Is…

Of course, the real champion is popping your own fresh popcorn at home. But when you can’t do that, either of these options are darn good. The one that’s the best of the best though and deemed winner of this Food Fight? Fit Popcorn. Three for three, you simply gotta try it! Especially in Olive Oil and Parmesan & Herb. It’s light, airy and oh-so snackable, especially when watching a movie or having friends over.
Do you have a favorite popcorn snack? Tried either of these and agree or disagree? Wanna fight (nicely) about it? Leave a comment, yo! —Jenn
