Now That We’ve Found Juice, What Are We Gonna Do?

juicing-585With It?! (Cue the Heavy D music!)
I love juice!

Over on Fit Bottomed Girls, I recently discussed the alkaline challenge that required I juice/cleanse for the first three days of a 30-day meal plan. I thought these days would be utter hell, but much to my surprise, I felt great at the end. I had new vigor and energy for life that I hadn’t felt in years and a new appreciation for all the weird leftover veggies and fruits chillin’ in my fridge.
The rub: I was going to Whole Foods every day to get my multiple concoctions each day. Not only was I paying out the butt for the juice, but I was paying in gas. Lucky for me though, the Bella houseware fairies blessed me with their love and sent their newest juicer to try out.
The flood gates opened! I now juice two, three times a day. If I start to drag, feel groggy—I juice! If my joints start to ache—I juice! If I crave sweets—I juice! You get the picture. So far I’m in the experimental stage. I’ll try anything, and I’ve learned much. Like, for instance, there is such a thing as too much celery and lemon. Spinach needs some apple or other really juicy fruit to push it out properly. Apples, carrots, ginger and beets are THE most delicious combination I’ve tried so far.
Juicing truly is a healthy obsession. It’s the perfect way to get in a bunch of the fruits and vegetables you need daily. It’s also a perfect way to hide the fruits and vegetables you normally don’t like. My fiance hates beets, but I’ll be damned if he doesn’t slurp down my apple, carrot, ginger and beet cocktail like it’s nobody’s business.

Nothing makes me more happy now than to see a fruit bowl filled to the brim.

I love California produce! Finding red anjou pears was a treat. Bring on the fiber, vitamin C and potassium!

Juicing has such a negative connotation for so many people. It stirs up bad images of people going to extreme measures to lose a couple pounds in a hurry. My obsession is a positive one, though. I use juicing to fill the nutritional holes I need to be whole. So now that I’ve found love, I know exactly what I’m going to do…WITH IT!

What about you? Are you a juicer? Have any tasty recipes you’d be willing to share? —Tish
