The Movie (or TV Show) That Makes Me Want to Be Fitter

sex and the city, question of the week

Girls who work out together belong together!

Seeing that the gals were so into the Oscars this year and I LIVE for all things film-related, we thought that for this Question of the Week we’d keep the movie-love going by asking each FBG: What movie motivates you to be fitter? Enjoy the responses, and be sure to leave your own fave fit movie in the comment.

I had to cheat on this one. It was first a TV series that motivated me to want to be fitter. For all my fellow Carrie Bradshaw lovers, you know what I’m talking about when I say that Sex and the City was THE breath of fresh air for oodles of women in the world. We got to see beautiful, intelligent women doing the damn thing, and talking about the damn thing, and it was damn awesome. Beyond the fashion and cosmos though, I loved seeing the girls in their fitness element.

There were fun conversations over yoga, Charlotte and her pregnant running, Miranda and her marathon training…goddess hip thrusts to all of that! I loved seeing the women getting together and making fitness such a normal part of their routine. I loved that they worked out together and that it was totally normal for them. And let’s not forget all the walking they did all over that town! Because of that show, I giggle like a school girl when any of my buds agree to try something new with me. The SATC ladies showed us that fitness could be as sweet, endearing and fabulous as we need it to be.

Do you have a movie or TV show that inspires you to be fitter? —Tish

I can’t ever watch The Biggest Loser if I haven’t worked out that day. I used to work out WHILE watching it. That was fun! Also those “50 hottest bodies in music” shows that they have on Vh1 always motivate me. And good call on SATC! Love watching those ladies get it done…

  2. Jess says:

The biggest loser tv show seems to do the trick.

I also liked desperate housewives. That show makes me want to lose weight for some odd reason.

  3. CM says:

Every time I see a movie with Cameron Diaz in it I feel like I should be doing something to get fit. I’m the same height as her but probably about 20lbs heavier! She always looks good.

  4. How about Love Potion No. 9 or Miss Congeniality? Sandra Bullock shows how to make the worst and the best of yourself. And Sigourney Weaver was a bit of a revelation in Galaxy Quest (older ladies can still look good!)

  5. Diego says:

Step Up! I’m a sucker for dancing movies, but that one in particular. You’d have to stay pretty fit to pull off some of the moves in that movie.

  6. Alexander says:

I’m gonna have to go with XXX. You can’t pull off the stuff Vin Diesel does in that movie without being super fit.

  7. Amy says:

There was this Renee Zellweger movie called New In Town. Not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination, but there was this one scene in which her character is out for a run, and she’s just gliding down the path, light as air. It made running look so liberating (and easy, which it isn’t). Then there was the movie What Women Want, where the fictional advertising agency pitches this Nike ad with the tagline “No games. Just sports.” That totally got me, too.

  8. Marsha says:

“Million Dollar Baby”. Hillary Swank’s body in that was sick!

  9. Sagan says:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer! Love seeing a tiny woman with so much physical capability 🙂

(And YES to SATC too ;))
