Get-in-Shape Tips from Pure Barre’s Founder

Pure Barre will burn.

I recently got an email that made me do a double-take. It said that Pure Barre founder and chief concept officer Carrie Dorr was pregnant with twins and also had a 5-month-old baby boy at home. I immediately responded to see if I read it wrong. Nope! Due in October, the busy mama-to-be shares her thoughts on how Pure Barre can help you stay strong during pregnancy and beyond.

Get-in-Shape Tips from the Pure Barre Pro

What are the most difficult areas to target for new moms and how does the Pure Barre technique help tone those parts effectively? New moms have the same stubborn spots as the rest of the female population, but, in addition, their abdomen muscles have been put through the ringer in the past nine months. Pure Barre is perfect for this because it has always targeted abs, hips, seat and arms.

What are three techniques or pieces of advice you could give moms-to-be who are looking for ways to stay fit while pregnant? Is there anything women can do in order to ultimately help them “bounce-back” after their baby? 1. Accept that your body is going to change, but it’s for the best cause in the world and you can get it back. 2. Although you need to eat more during pregnancy, be smart about what you are eating and don’t use pregnancy as an excuse to just eat whatever! 3. If your pregnancy allows, keep moving!

With regards to your last pregnancy, what techniques did you, personally, find to be the most beneficial? Additionally, can you elaborate on the results? I did Pure Barre and walked every day of my pregnancy, including the day Luke was born. I was fortunate not to have any major complications and began the same regimen three days after Luke was born. My PB workout was of course modified to how I was feeling, but it was also the hour of the day I felt the best—it felt great to just be moving and mentally it was good for me as well.

We at Fit Bottomed Mamas have tested out a Pure Barre DVD, and we’ll just say that we definitely felt the burn. It’s a workout touted for its no-impact, non-jarring moves—perfect for new moms who want to seriously tone up but who may not be ready for a high-impact routine.
