New Fun Fitness Fashion Trend: Lace?

I wouldn’t have put “lace” and “fitness” in the same sentence normally. Lace seems all proper, frilly and scratchy, while fitness is sweaty, non-frilly and you definitely want to wear anything but scratchy. But this new Brooks Running outfit that we got to try per our gig as a blog ambassador (unbiased review though—promise!) for them is pretty dang cute—and functional for running or anything else, really, as I learned. (And who spies the workouts shades we recently just reviewed?!)

Seeing that I’m in the final throes of stress fracture recovery (Too dramatic? I’m sooo ready to be back to running!), I couldn’t exactly test this Brooks Running outfit while running, but I could in the backyard, with a low-impact yet killer Tabata workout. More on the exact workout in the coming weeks, but just know that it was tough—and put my lacy outfit to the sweaty test.

First, let’s talk about the Women’s D’lite Micro Mesh Racerback tank. As you can see, it’s cute! With a relaxed and flowy fit (size down if you’d like it tighter), it’s super lightweight and you can wear it layered or not (like I did—just with a sports bra). It’s kind of see-through, but not totally see-through, which is nice. With a flattering racerback and a mesh material that’s breathable, it keeps you cool when out in the hottest of weather. I seriously loved this tank. The only “complaint” I have is that when I went to wipe my sweaty face off with my shirt, it wouldn’t absorb anything. But, um, that is the point, right?

Then there’s the shorts. Oh, the shorts! The Women’s D’lite 4″ Low Rise Short has a wide waistband that’s flattering and sits nice and low (love that). The length is just how I like ’em, too—short but not too short. The blue matches the top and has fun contrast piping of neon green on the edges. So cute! Semi-fitted and breezy with a little bit of stretch, these definitely move with you and keep you cool. There’s even a little zip pocket on the back to hold a key or your ID, which is always a nice feature.

But my favorite part of these shorts—and, really, the whole outfit—is the mesh side panels. They’re kind of hard to see, but there’s a little strip of mesh that’s just like the tank there on the side! See? (My dog likes them, too, clearly.)

It’s little details like that that I love. So lace and fitness? Totally go together. Totally.

What new fitness fashion trends are you loving this summer? Love the semi-sheer, too? —Jenn
