Big Company, Big Heart: I Dine with Jamba

Last week I had the privilege of sitting down, alongside other media, with Julie S. Washington, senior vice president and chief brand officer for Jamba Juice, and talking shop. The restaurant: Cecconi’s in West Hollywood. The scoop: Jamba is on a mission to help people make healthier choices, no matter what stage of the health and fitness spectrum they fall in.

I cannot tell a lie: I love me some Jamba. Not only did they create three new smoothie flavors that contain oodles of delicious vegetables, now they’re taking it one step further and creating the kinds of juices I make at home. I’m talking apple, lemon and ginger mixes! Kale, apple, pineapple and chia seed mixes, as well as beets, carrot, apple and ginger concoctions. Just when you thought Jamba couldn’t get any cooler, they up and add more cool. For now, these new juices are only in select California stores. They’re testing them out, seeing how well they do and then, hopefully, they’re released to the masses for all around enjoyment. (I swear there’s just something about a beet and apple mix that makes me go weak in the knees.)

Jamba’s doing more than just giving the community great juices, though. They’ve recently partnered with DonorsChoose.org to start directing funds to one of Jamba’s programs, The “Team Up for a Healthy America” Campaign. They plan to contribute $100,000 to help provide play and exercise equipment to high-need schools across the U.S. These people are wonderful, I tell ya!

In all, it was a great night. I ate delicious food and participated in some fascinating discussions about pressed juices. For instance, did you know it’s best to drink pressed juices within 10 minutes to get all of the nutrients? There are a lot of juicing diets out there that market to those who want to lose weight. Jamba’s more on the “get as much good stuff in your body as you can.” I like the idea of eating to fuel … thus fueling to get fit. That logic works best for me.

At one point in the dinner, someone stated that Jamba gives you the opportunity to be your best by giving your body the best … and I fell for the darn company all over again.

It was fitting that a giant heart was hanging in the room we dined in. I could feel the Jamba love! —Tish
