What it is: Basically an algae, spirulina has been cultivated and consumed by the indigenous people of Mexico and Africa for thousands of years.
How it’s healthy: Highly digestible, spirulina is said to do everything from protect the immune system to reduce cholesterol to help control blood sugar levels. High in protein, spirulina is also loaded with zeaxanthin and lutein, antioxidants that support good vision and overall eye health.
How to try it: Spirulina is popping in all kinds of products these days from protein bars to protein powders, but you can easily find spirulina in powder or supplement form in your local natural food market. Get green!
