Healthy Sweet Snacks: Stix in the Mud and BelVita Biscuits

Today is a bit of a mash-up in the food department, but we’re always looking for healthy sweet snacks to munch on in this household, so bear with me! First up, we’ve got an all-natural sweet treat that will make you swoon. Then, we’ve got a new flavor of an old favorite. Read on for a couple of items on the sweeter side that you can feel better about eating!

Funley’s Stix in the Mud

Okay, so I wouldn’t necessarily called these a “healthy snack” (although Fitness magazine did name them “Best Sweet Snack“), but if you need a chocolate or sweet-treat fix, it’s best to go the all-natural route, right? Right! So when Funley’s contacted me offering up some of its Stix in the Mud, I couldn’t resist as I was in a very hungry state of mind. I tried not to tell them to send them all.

The treats are a mix of pure milk and dark chocolate with crunchy whole-grain cookie bits inside. Sound weird? I had to bite in to see for myself what they were all about! I tried them in Original, Peanut Butter and Caramel. Caramel was good — but full disclosure — I’m actually not a huge caramel fan. However, peanut butter? The inside was fluffy yet crunchy deliciousness, and gone in two too-quick bites.

Peanut butter + chocolate = heaven!

The Original flavor reminded me of of chocolate-covered pretzels, and they look like mini no-bake cookies. They tasted the richest and darkest of all three varieties if you like your chocolate darker. I love that they’re individually wrapped to help with portion control — although a serving size is three pieces clocking in from 140 calories to 190 calories. Are they a nutritional powerhouse? Nope. But if you’re looking for a delicious, all-natural fix for your sweet tooth, try some Stix!

BelVita Soft Baked

Marketed as more of a breakfast item than a sweet treat, BelVita biscuits are actually kind of perfect for curing a hankering for something sweet. They recently expanded their Soft Baked line (previously reviewed here) with Banana Bread and Cinnamon flavors. I adore all things banana bread, so I was more than happy to give them a try. The Banana Bread biscuit clocks in with 190 calories, 5 grams of fiber, 3 grams of protein and 9 grams of sugar.

The new flavors lived up to their predecessors, with Banana Bread taking the lead over Cinnamon (big surprise). They’re not the most complete and nutritious breakfast you could go for, but when you’re late for work and must grab something convenient so that you don’t skip the most important meal of the day — or when you’re out with your kids and need an easy snack — BelVita biscuits will work for you without overdoing it on sugar.

Any sweet favorites that you don’t feel guilty about eating? All good things — even candy and breakfast biscuits — in moderation! —Erin
