The COOLIT Takes Food From ‘Too Hot’ to ‘Just Right’

Evan dropped a bowl of oatmeal — hot oatmeal — on his lap. He wasn’t wearing pants, because that’s how he rolls at breakfast, and he burned his thigh. I was absolutely horrified that this happened; I just could not believe he pulled it down on himself. I was so upset, and he was in so much pain. Although his skin is starting to rebuild itself (yes, it was THAT bad), I’m still scarred by the whole event. Wouldn’t you know it, on that day, a box came in the mail. I opened it to find a big blue bowl:

Ah, yes, this! This is what a Mama needs! The COOLIT ($9.99). When I read about it, it went from an “OMG where has this been the past year?” to an “OMG, why didn’t I think of that” moment! Here’s how easy this is: You put the bowl in the fridge or freezer (I preferred the freezer) and you take it out when you need to cool down food. Yep, that about sums it up. It’s a no-fuss kind of product! It’s also BPA- and phthalate-free, and it’s infused with a non-toxic gel for rapid cooling.

Okay, so back to it. I used this that evening for dinner. I made a jambalaya that I later warmed up in the slow cooker. It was steaming and ready for us to eat; it just needed a couple of minutes to cool down for my mister. I scooped out Evan’s portion into the COOLIT and gave it a stir for a minute (maybe even two!) and voila! It wasn’t too hot nor was it too cold. It pretty much made the food a good and even warm. Brilliant! That night I cleaned the COOLIT and put it right back in the freezer. The clean-up is so ridiculously easy. No stress, a little warm water and soap, no elbow grease required. (It is also top-rack dishwasher safe, too). Just what mamas like! So guess what Evan had for breakfast that following morning? Yep! Oatmeal!

I have to say, especially for mamas with busy mornings or multiple kids, this is a must-have! You can throw more than one serving into the bowl while you finish preparing the rest of the meal. For the mom who has to run out the door and blowing on food just isn’t going to cut it, this is great!

Ever had a food mishap? Is this a product you’d use or can you live without it? —Jennifer
