Vacation Packing Tips: Lighten the Load and Pack Like A Pro

Vacation Packing Tips: Go Native

Dress the part. Shorts and baseball hats may be all the rage on the islands, but they are seldom seen in European cities. It pays to do a little research before you embark on your journey.

My knee-length skirt was still too short. Thankfully, this Hindu temple provided the appropriate coverage, a sarong, otherwise I would have missed it.

On the sandy beaches of Rio, skin is in and only tourists tote a bulky beach towel. On the contrary, even your most bedazzled thongs won’t pass muster at the Monte Carlo Casino, and entrance will be denied.

Pack what is appropriate for each destination. Immerse yourself in the surrounding culture and live like a native — at least for a few days.

Essential is a matter of perspective, but over the years I’ve found there is a lot I can do without on vacation. The only “must have” is a good attitude.

Enjoy the freedom of travel and take a break from all your stuff! On your return, you might just find that you can actually live without three types of hair products.

Traveling to France for a sight seeing trip. How would you advise dressing for tourist sites in Paris?

  2. Karen says:

As in most of Europe they wear dark jeans, casual pants or skirts with short heeled boots or sturdy comfortable flats. Usually only tourist wear shorts and tennis shoes. Parisians in particular wear a lot of black or neutral. Think more along the tailored lines instead of oversized and super comfy. Accessorize with a scarf and you can’t go wrong.

  3. Thanks for the tips.
