A Beyoncé Hour: The Workout Inspired By Queen Bey

Hi. My name is Tish, and I am a Beyoncé minion. All hail Queen Bey! Yep, I’m one of those folks who can’t get enough of the woman. I love Beyonce’s music! I love her dancing! I love her physical strength! I love her inner Sasha! I love her umph! I love her energy! Yeah, I could go on and on. Lately I’ve taken to blasting her latest and greatest album while working out. Doesn’t even matter if the songs are slow; I will find a way to work in every track into my workouts.

The music inspires me to go all out beast mode … or should I say bey mode. That’s when the idea hit me. The FBGs haven’t really gave our fittie nod to the Queen, yet. It was high time. Her music inspires, her energy on stage inspires, and what she can get her body to do inspires. This may take me out of the ranks of superfandomness for admitting it, but I’m pretty sure some of her magic has to come from hard work — it can’t all be magic, right?  Homegirl had to work to get to the awesome throne she reins upon. I don’t know her personal trainer so I couldn’t get the official workout, but I did marry a darn tootin’ good one who knows his stuff, so I consulted with him, showing him some of her performances. (Okay, all the ones from the HBO specials that have been popping up.)

Together, we came up with possible workouts Queen Bey could possibly do to get her ready for any given performance night. The workouts had to involve some good cardio. After all, she does dance and magic WHILE singing for an hour-plus every night of her tours, so be prepared for some awesome endurance training!

A Beyoncé Hour: The Workout

For this Bey-based workout, there are three circuits. Do each circuit three times through, ending with a 10-minute walk/run and some stretching to cool down.

Beyoncé Workout Circuit 1 x 3

  • 45-second jump rope
  • 10 renegade rows (push-up with back row — 10 on each arm)
  • 10 jump squats

Beyoncé Workout Circuit 2 x 3

  • 45 second jump rope
  • 10 burpees with overhead dumbbell press
  • 10 alternating jumping lunges (10 on each leg)

Beyoncé Workout Circuit 3 x 3

Beyoncé Workout Cardio x 1

  • 10-minute walk/run

Beyoncé Workout Cool Down

  • 10 minute walk/run
  • Stretching

I think I shall try these circuits at least once a week as one of my strength-training workouts for a month and see if my inner Bey can reach new heights … or at least see if I can sing along to the album while working out. Whatever helps us have that Bey hour, right? —Tish
