I Will What I Want, and I Want to Be Me

This post was sponsored by Under Armour through their partnership with POPSUGAR Select. While I was compensated to write a post about Under Armour, all opinions are my own.

I-will-what-I-want

There are so many ads out there for women that are about what we should be or shouldn’t be. What we should have or shouldn’t have. How we should act or — you guessed it — how we shouldn’t act. But how often do you have an ad campaign come around that encourages you to be you? And not like the “you” that society thinks you should be, but a you that takes all the “shoulds” out altogether and celebrates women for who they are and who they really want to be? One that lifts limits and encourages women to be, well, anything?

Yeah, I dig that. Hard. And that’s exactly what Under Armour’s new I Will What I Want campaign is: powerful.

Under Armour has recently been doing a social commentary experiment in partnership with model Gisele Bundchen. And before you go rolling your eyes at the name of a supermodel, know this: even she — a seemingly perfect female specimen in the world today and one of the most beautiful women in the world — gets put in a box. And this campaign is showing how through her determination and will, she can break down those stereotypes and doors (just a pretty face and figure) and be whoever she wants to be. That her will is more powerful than anything society says. See the video below!

Pretty powerful concept, right? It struck a chord in me for sure because I think we all get put in boxes according to what we look like, what we do, what age, race and gender we are. And it’s easy to just get stuck there — or, worse, be afraid to make waves and break free.

Which is why I made my own I Will What I Want video. Mine was inspired by my own evolution in fitness over the years and was filmed at my gym (a big thanks to the Fit Pit for letting me film — and my husband for doing the footage!) during my usual 5:30 a.m. class. (Love my early morning workouts!) Hopefully my story inspires you to will for what you want, too.

If you were to make a video, what would yours look like? What do you have the will to want? —Jenn
