Who’s hungry for a little high-protein chocolatey goodness? This Food Fight that pits LUNA Chocolate Cupcake vs. Level Life Double Chocolate Chip is full of exactly that! So let’s get it on! Well, that sounded wrong … but you know what we mean. It’s Food Fight time!

Taste & Texture

LUNA Chocolate Cupcake: We’ve been fans of LUNA bars for a long time, and they have a reputation here at FBE HQ for tasting tasty. And, guys, their Chocolate Cupcake flavor is pretty much out of this world when it comes to a protein bar. Dense but still a little chewy and tasting oh-so chocolatey, this is a protein bar for the chocolate-lover for sure. There are even little chocolate chips in there! (I mean, nothing can really top an actual cupcake in the taste and texture department, but this is about as close as you can get in high-protein bar form.) For those who don’t like super-sweet things though, be aware: the LUNA bar is quite sweet and definitely like a dessert.
Level Life Double Chocolatey Chip: Far, far less sweet than the LUNA bar is the Level Life Double Chocolatey Chip bar. It’s a bit chalky and dry — kind of makes you want to snack on it with a glass of water or almond milk. The chocolate flavor is pretty good, but it definitely tastes more like a protein bar than anything else.
Winner: LUNA Chocolate Cupcake wins this one hands down.

Nutritional Facts

LUNA Chocolate Cupcake: One of these bars has 180 calories, 5 grams of fat, 2.5 grams of saturated fat, 27 grams of carbs, 4 grams of fiber, 12 grams of sugar, 9 grams of protein and lots of your essential vitamins and minerals (including 35 percent calcium, 30 percent iron, 15 percent vitamin D and 100 percent folate).
Level Life Double Chocolatey Chip: A Level Life Double Chocolatey Chip bar has 140 calories, 5 grams of fat, 3 grams of saturated fat, 15 grams of carbs, 6 grams of fiber, 2 grams of sugar, 12 grams of protein and — just like LUNA — lots of your essential vitamins and minerals (including 25 percent calcium, 25 percent iron, 100 percent vitamin D and 25 percent folate).
Winner: Both are pretty good, but this one definitely goes to Level Life for the fewer calories and grams of sugar, plus the additional protein!

Ingredient List

LUNA Chocolate Cupcake: It’s not exactly a short ingredient list for LUNA, but all in all, the ingredient list isn’t as processed as many protein bars on the market. We like that many of the ingredients are organic and the entire bar is gluten-free. The bars are also non-GMO with no hydrogenated oils. As a heads up, the protein in these come from soy.
Level Life Double Chocolatey Chip: The protein in these also come from soy, and the ingredient list is fairly long as well. Also gluten-free, these are sweetened with sucralose.
Winner: LUNA gets it for being organic, non-GMO and while we don’t like how much sugar is in the LUNA bars, we’d prefer that our sweetness comes from actual sweet things and not sucralose. (Wish Level Life had used Stevia instead!)

And the Food Fight Champion Is …

Based on taste, texture and the ingredients, LUNA Chocolate Cupcake wins it! However, if you’re good with having a slightly more processed bar that’s not as sweet, Level Life Double Chocolatey Chip certainly meets our guidelines for snacking on foods that are high in protein and fiber!
