Review: Tales from Another Mother Runner

The book Tales from Another Mother Runner: Triumphs, Trials, Tips, and Tricks from the Road got our attention for a number of reasons:

1) The other Mother Runner books rock.

2) We can always use new running tips!

3) We’re virtual buds with the authors — and they are the real deal.

4) Um, is that a Cheryl Strayed endorsement on the cover?!

Which is all awesome and true. But what kept us turning page after page was just how motivational, inspirational and — probably best yet — how understood we felt while reading. The book features real stories from real women who are moms and also get out there and run. Some of them are fast. Some of them are not so fast. All of them are relatable. There are touching essays on self-confidence and connecting with friends, tips on getting faster and making peace with yourself and your body, motivational quotes, and personal accounts of moms making the time to get their run on.

Filled with so much advice and inspiration from real women, I can’t think of a book I’ve read recently that fired me up to get out and run as much as this one. In fact, the one night I cracked it open (and got about, oh, six pages in before my daughter woke up), I vowed to lace up my sneakers the next day for a little interval work with the stroller. Sure, I had hoped to fit in a workout of some kind that next day, but this book gave me the get-up-and-go to not just do it, but to be pumped about being able to do it. And that next day? I ran like a Badass Mother Runner. I didn’t run super “fast,” but I felt good — and really proud of myself.

When’s the last time you had a really good run? I’ve come to believe that ANY time you make the time to get out there, it should be considered “good!” —Jenn
