5 Summer Fashion Trends (That Are FBG-Approved!)

fashion-trends-585

Fashion trends might not be the most important part of getting fit, but for gals like us who spend a lot — like, a lot — of time in workout clothes, often out and about? Well, it’s awfully nice to be able to feel stylish and on trend and still be able to kill it in the gym.

There are some pretty sweet, super-wearable summer fashion trends out there, and we considered it our duty (and, let’s face it, also our pleasure) to scope out a few that don’t just look great, but are also easy to wear.

The Trend: Cut Outs and Open Backs

How to Wear It: Try a bright, contrasting color or a complementary print peeking out from the cut out areas. It’s a great way to show a little extra skin without stripping down to just a sports bra.

Who’s Doing It Right: Cozy Orange has a gorgeous Rue top with Peony Sports Bra (and you might even want to try the matching leggings, if you’re feeling feisty and love a print as much as we do!

The Trend: Baggy Capris

How to Wear It: Not all of us have the style cojones to rock the full-on harem pants look (although Tish certainly does!), but there’s a lot of room between that and skintight spandex, you know? To balance out this trend, pair the loose-fitting pants with either a somewhat more fitted top (doesn’t have to be clingy — think body-skimming) or, if you want a baggy shirt, go with a shorter cropped top.

Who’s Doing It Right: I’ve been loving Athleta’s options, like the La Viva Capri, because they’re loose enough to embrace the trend, but they’re form-fitting enough to still look really pulled together.

The Trend: Flowy, Loose Tops

How to Wear It: Just like with the baggy capris, pulling off a flowy top is done by balancing out the look, so try it with leggings or tight shorts. And a lot of the really cool ones out there also incorporate cut outs, so make use of bright sports bras and tanks underneath.

Who’s Doing It Right: There are a number of brands out there really rocking this trend, like Liquido’s Lean on Me Tank or this Colosseum Cutout Short Sleeve Top.

The Trend: Metallic Sandals

How to Wear It: When the fashion bloggers started busting out the Birks a year or two ago, my heart leaped with joy — I really love a comfy sandal. Obviously, this isn’t going to be a great trend to use while during cardio, but for walking to and from yoga or other classes, a comfy, flat metallic sandal is a great way to make your workout wear look just a bit more like street clothes, so don’t be afraid to wear these with just about any leggings or capris … running shorts might not be the most stylish option.

Who’s Doing It Right: I’m beyond infatuated with the Serena Metallic from Ahnu. They’re vegan, which I always find to be a bonus, and they have the trendy thong strap but also offer a strap around your heel. And there’s enough stretch to allow you to slip in and out of them with ease.

The Trend: You Do You

How to Wear It: See something you love? Put it on your body and rock it. The one trend that doesn’t change with year or season is wearing what makes you feel awesome. So let your confidence shine, regardless of whether the fashion mags say your favorite top is on trend!

Who’s Doing It Right: You!

Are there any summer fashion trends you’re just loving this year? These are my faves, but I know there are loads more. Kristen
